Applying for the upcoming javelina draw- any downside being under the old license regime?

Recommended Posts

I was looking at applying for a javelina, but you have to buy a 2014 license that is governed by the current rules (soon to be old rules). Looks like the new license fee will be slightly higher and has a better fishing combo. Is there any other disadvantage of getting the hunting license now vs waiting until next year?

Actually you will still pay the old prices now for everything then as of January 1st the new prices kick in. So buy it now well heck you have too if you are putting in for Javelina, Turkey, or Bear

Agree...I read it as buying the new license at the current rate. After Jan 1, same license at the new 2014 rate. At least that will be my excuse next year for not having an Urban license. :D

I wonder what happens next year (so fall 2014) when you apply for the 2015 hunt. If you have to buy a new license then (rolling 12 months) the clock probably starts at purchase which would leave you with a short overlap of two licenses. Not sure how the system will work, maybe it will take this into account.

I was thinking of this exact same thing yesterday when applying for Turkey and getting my Buffalo bonus point. I'm curious how that will work out.

Not sure if this has already been asked or answered in this thread, but i was wondering if you buy the license now will it still come with that 2 pole stamp they're adding next year?

I purchased my 2014 license the other day and asked to have the 2 pole stamp added on it. She said that she wouldn't sell me a stamp with it because starting Jan 1 it is Included in my license that I just bought. So we will see if that is true.

Yes the license will be valid Jan 1 to Dec 31 2014.

But when you go to apply for the 2015 javi hunt (or turkey or whatever) in fall of 2014, you generally need an active hunting license to cover that period. So you buy a new hunting license for 2015...but wait! The new license is on a rolling 12 months, so the clock would probably start when you buy it. So, not sure on this, but you could end up with a hunting license going from Jan-Dec 2014 and a license going from Oct 2014-Oct 2015.

GJ- I believe if you buy the license now it does not come with the 2 pole stamp you still have to buy it if you want it. On Jan 1 it all changes. Could be wrong but that is what I heard (another reason I heard people were waiting to buy the license because of the simplified fishing options).

However if you look at the new system, the two pole stamp option doesn't exist. So, is it possible if you buy a 2014 fishing license now, without the 2 pole option, and want to add it in 2014 you won't be able to without buying a whole new fishing license?

If you buy a 2014 license now, won't it be valid from Jan. 1st until Dec. 31, 2014?

It will be valid beginning Jan 1st 2014 Until Dec 31st 2014. They make you buy it now because they will not draw or sell you a 2014 tag with out it. You have to have a valid hunting license for the year the tag was issued

What kind of license did they print out for the ones that went to G&F and bought a license. I hope its not the same piece of paper you can print out at home because they are not very wallet friendly.

I haven't got my 2014 AZ license yet, but if it is like other home print licenses you can print the license out 1/2 size. You can still read it, but it is half the paper you need to fold it up to put it in your wallet.

The way I see and have read is that if you buy a 2014 license now it will be valid from Januray 1st to dec 31 2014. Now to apply for the Javelina hunt next year 2015 you will use your current 2014 license and then on dec 31st when your license expires you just get a new license for 2015. This is how I read the validation points and rules.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This is correct.
