az41mag Report post Posted September 24, 2013 So I drew an early Nov Coues tag in 24A, and spent the past weekend scouting the area. One thing I noticed was the lack of undeveloped/ dispersed camping in the areas of the Pinal's. I know there are several developed campgrounds on top of the Pinal's, but the narrow winding roads leading up there didn't seem to be suitable for pulling my travel trailer up there. So my question for those of you who regularly hunt 24a is, are there any areas near the Pinal Mountains that might have decent areas for trailer camping? Do most folks who hunt that area just tent camp? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
stanley Report post Posted September 24, 2013 Depends on how high-up you want to camp. There are places to trailer camp along the Dripping Springs road to the South of the Pinals. Good luck! S.
az41mag Report post Posted September 30, 2013 Thanks for the input Stanley. I may have to make another trip back to look at the Dripping Springs area. My previous trip was more in the northern part of the unit and around the Pinals. I wasn't able to get to Dripping Springs rd from the north since Gov't Springs ranch had blocked FR 899. Ran out of time to try and find another way around. Clint
arizonaelitefreak Report post Posted September 30, 2013 The road is not blocked at all you have to cut off to the left before you hit the gate at the bottom. The ranch has the gate closed so traffic isnt going thru the ranch house. There is no access issues in that area just to the main house.
az41mag Report post Posted September 30, 2013 I guess I missed the turn off before the closure to the ranch. How far back from the closure is the turn that I should have taken? Just to clarify, I was heading south on FR 899 and the ranch (I'm assuming), strung a cable across the road at a cattle guard with private property and no trespassing signs in place. The road was blocked on the forest boundary / the ranch's property line.
arizonaelitefreak Report post Posted October 1, 2013 There is ways to get around it to the east about a mile or 2 from there or as your coming down the hill theres a hair pin turn with a road that goes to the west that takes you to the west of the ranch. Its just basically a bypass that takes you around the ranch house thats all. Rancher doesnt want the traffic at the ranch house. Good guy though .
