COOSEFAN Report post Posted October 22, 2006 I just talked to my "guide" (Shortpants) who is scouting right now for ME (actually for us) and he said in some areas he's had the tops of the grass hitting him in the chin! He is 6 1/2 feet tall! Thats some serious Coues hide'n ground cover, even more so for them dang snattlerakes! I'm scared. JIM> Dont forget about the high population of tarantulas this year Jim THANKS hadn't thought about them until now. I will be sleeping on the ground the entire hunt with them dang critters too! cmc Report post Posted October 23, 2006 I was out this weekend and man is that grass tall!!!! I needed a weed whacker to trim out in front of me so I could sit and glass. Those little deer hid pretty well, let alone the 75-80deg heat keeping them at bay. Lots of little guys were out and about. 2x2's and 3x3's galore! This heat is going to kill me. A reminder why I dislike the Oct hunt so much. cmc

JIM> On my last 2 scouting trips in 35a the skeeters were eating us alive, in the morning and evening. Bring on the bug repellant!

shortpants Report post Posted October 24, 2006 I have never felt more unprepared for a hunt in all my life. Guiding elk hunts took up all my scouting time. I made one trip this last weekend but never got the chance to really glass because I was looking for a good place to pack into. When I tried to finally glass I was eatin alive by mosquitoes and did'nt get much glassing done. I'm also taking my new 300wsm. which I have not had the time to get really comfortable with yet. I'm confident out to 300yds. and when I get down there wednesday I'll see how I do out to 400yds. but for now will stick to 300yds. I just bought all new backpacking gear, tent, sleeping bag, etc. so I hope there's no problems there. Bottom line is I need you all to wish Coosefan and I a lot of luck cause we're going to need it! cmc Report post Posted October 24, 2006 ya the skeeters were pretty bad the two days I made it out. Not looking forward to that part of the game. I'm also thinking of packing in on Monday & Tuesday after the deer get pressured up into the nasty country. Still need to get a tent though. cmc
