Base and rings

Recommended Posts

First of all I want to thank Doug and Neil over at camera land for their great customer service. I took advantage of the Labor Day weekend sale of a Viper Hs 16x44 rifle scope for $399.99 when I called I didn't have all the funds to purchase the scope at the moment, but they agreed to wait for my check from work to clear 2 days after the sale ended, and I am now the owner of a scope. These guys are terrific I was very pleased with how they took care of me. Thanks guys.

Now for my questions regarding mounting the scope, I have a Remington 700 in .270 what would be my best option for rings to hold the Viper HS 4-16x44 with 30 mm tubes. I would greatly appreciate any feed back on items you have used and the experience you have had with different rings?

Another item that I would be installing in my rifle is a bipod stand. Never have used one in my rifles so I have no hands on experiences with any. What would be my best buy for the money on a Bipod. Should I lean towards a certain product? I have heard Harris products are good? Any feedback would be great for me.

Thank you

Mark

Any base or ring combo will work. Most would probably prefer a one piece base and it would be easy to go with the Vortex rings and use their customer service help. The easiest rings to work with are probably Burris Signature rings since the floating plastic inserts insure you wont pinch the scope tube and if necessary you can use the offset rings for alignemnt, take a look at their site for details.

For a bipod Harris is the standard, the Caldwell ones also work and cost less but are slightly less refined than the Harris version. Mounting them is a non-issue if you already have a sling stud to work with on your stock.

I have the same set up on my remington 700 .270 and I used the talley one piece in the low size but I would order the med. The low's rub a little when you change the magnification. The rings are around 40 bucks and I got mine on amazon. I also bought the Harris S25C bipod, its tall enough that you can use it sitting down or in the prone position. It also tilts but you can lock it so it will be stationary as well. I like my set up for my .270, I bought the turrets for the HS and they dial out to 675. Turned em to 425 and shot my buck last year right in the lungs.

Thanks guys. I think im going with the Talleys and a Harris is bipod. I've read good reviews on both. Can't wait to go out to the range.
