Plain Jane Bullets

Recommended Posts

Within the past ten years, I have used a Nosler Partition bullet, but I have shot a Javelina this year with a .30 Cal 150gr Sierra Game King, taken a couple of Coues with a 30 Cal 150gr Hornady Interlock, anyone ever have a problem with a bullet considered non premium? I saw a forkie Coues once that was shot three times with a factory Rem core loct in a 150gr 7mm Mag, Man that deer was chewed up.

That's because that bullet is designed to expand and will do a maximum amount of damage on a little deer, especially at close range which is why caliber and bullet selection are so important.

I have used Core-Lokt bullets on Elk and they work just fine.

NoN Premium Bullets Have Their Places, But, You Don't Get Nearly As Much Bang Your The Buck If You Will. Not Many Offer The accuracy, Penetration, Weight Retention, And Bc That The Premium, Bonded Bullets Do.

...and to this I would add "consistency".

Not only in bullet weights, but overall length, brass thickness, etc.

If your rifle can shoot them accurately and you have matched the bulletin weight and caliber with the game you're hunting, those gamekings and interlocks will do the job. I loaded up some SGK for my buddy's plains game hunt in Africa and the only one out of seven animals had to be shot twice (that was because of a bad shot). Last year my son shot a cow elk with a 165 gr accubond. First shot in the shoulder just blew up and fragmented everywhere (165gr from 30-06 @ 300 yds) Had to hit it again. I use whatever shoots accurately, and what's available. Components have been scarce for a while.
