165gr sst hornady

Does any one have a good load for a 300 win mag. I use imr 4350 with 70 grains and a Cci primer. Is that to much pressure build up. I haven't noticed and bulged primers or stuck cases. Any help would be happily accepted.

Have had extremely good luck with h4831. Have used in a few rifles chambered in 3oowm. Very accurate and consistent velocities. Loads for accuracy in the rifles have been pretty consistent at 75.5 gr. with velocities over 3100 fps. But these have also been at the upper end of what we usually consider safe. Starting to show signs of pressure.

Try the optimal charge weight method. It's a very efficient way to work up loads. Simple instructions, just takes a little more time at the range....which isn't such a bad thing.

What you want to do is always start low on powder and work your way up. Load about 5 rounds of each different grain. You want the smallest group possible NOT the fastest velocity.

Also weigh the SSTs for consistency. I have been very unimpressed with the SST quality control. In my experience they have been all over the place on the scale. I have had some be off by two grains or more. The only time I use an SST is for barrel break in.

FWIW, we quit using SSTs in our .257, ,270s and .280s. They come apart and ruin too much meat. I shot an antelope through the shoulders at a little over 300 yards with a 117 grain SST from my .257 AI and we basically had to discard the entire front end. Had pretty much the same experience on mule deer with my .270 and my wife's .280 at ranges between 150 and 250 yards. An SST is about the last thing I would use in a .300 Mag.

Basically a target bullet and a pi$$ poor design for a hunting bullet. Way too explosive similar to the Nosler Ballistic Tips.
