Correction period eliminated

And you can no longer buy 2014 licenses at Walmart or other sporting goods stores you have to buy it online or go to department offices...

I hope that is only a transitional hiccup. I know in Louisiana the Wal Marts have a computer in the Sporting Goods department that the employees use to link to F&G and print you out a nice waterproof license.

A lot better than having to print your own from a home computer.

It won't be forever, likely only this year. It's a combination of the switch to 365-day licenses as well as their plans to put automated licensing services at vendors such as WalMart.

Personally, I like buying it at home online because I can save the license as a pdf and print it for absolutely free if I ever need a duplicate for some reason.

Good point, never thought of that. Thank you

Me neither. I have a Pioneer lifetimer. B)

My mom and dad both have their pioneer licenses. I was kind of jealous when they got them. Lol.

If I were to purchase the lifetime set up, how does it apply to the family discount on spouse and children?

I understand the rule change, we had a friend of my son's buy a license so we could send in left over apps and he didn't get it on time. So, now he has a license that expires at the end of the year and probably won't use it unless I take him predator hunting or something like that. Left overs were gone unexpectedly quick this year!

The only thing that's impressive about it is that I have lived this long -- barely. :)

I've already been to game and fish (Mesa office), and the nice office staff's official answer was "huh, i dont know. that will have to be figured out."

I explained to them my current situation (using my current 2013 license). I bought by my license in august 2012, for the following 2013 year. under the "new way". my 2013 license would be expired before my three (dont hate!) fall hunts. I purchase the following year license (as many others do) about september to put in for the feb javelina hunt.

Tony is correct. She said purchase the 2014 license now, and nothing changes because the effective date for the new reg isnt until jan 1. Walmart, and other third party vendors, she informed me werent participating because there will be a new "book" for the 365 license on the new year date. So they are holding back until the new law goes into effect.

I like the restructuring of the license system, minus the calendar/365 yr change. (yes, i know fees went up.... but depending on the license the complication went down.)

I usually buy my new year OTC deer tag the same time I buy my license every year. I like the idea of a PDF to save a copy if I ever lost mine. Not sure I like having to do two different things that I have always done at one time. Guess there is trade offs.

Has anyone done the math for buying a lifetime license verses when becoming eligible for the pioneer license and what it saves?? I imagine it may depend on how old you are but I'm not sure at 51 buying a lifetime license is in my best interest at this time. Might have been when I was 18.

The price will depend on the type of license you usually buy. Below is the chart with the current prices, but I'm not sure if they'll change in 2014 because of the new setup.

Anyway, to calculate if it's worth it, divide the 19 years you have left before you get a Pioneer license into the cost of your choice of licenses under your age. That will provide you a yearly amount, which you can compare to the new prices for the same license.

Example: if all you buy is the Class G hunting license, the yearly cost over 19 years will be $27.63. Under the new system, in 2014 a General Hunting License will cost you $37. And of course, it's possible there might be future increases.

Make sure you buy all your over the counter tags for next year before the end of this year as the new prices do not go into effect until after the first.
