Spooner Report post Posted October 16, 2006 Haven't hunted here for deer. Have for Javelina. If any of you that are familiar with it, had to choose one certain area to really try to cover in a decent scout time, and ultimate hunt, what would be your best choice? Does the area hold a decent population, or be prepared for a tough hunt?
peloncillo Report post Posted October 16, 2006 I always try to have a backup and a backup backup plan. If you haven't already been out scouting for particular bucks and you have the Dec. hunt I would probably start looking for areas with lots of does. The area south of Rucker canyon road in the Chiricauhuas would probably be the best area with access that you could pack in and have lots of country to glass. The biggest pig of a buck I ever have seen was in 30a and it was in an area that I'm sure is driven past by most coues hunters. You need to get out there and scout and I bet you will have a suucessful hunt. Good luck to you. Keven

Keven Thanks Keven, I had planned to get out starting from the second weekend of Nov., all of the T-Giving holiday and the first weekend of Dec. This way it will give me some time out there with the early hunt and I can see what is getting stirred up and hangin'. I take my boy elk hunting this weekend and he drew a Unit 8 Muley tag for the following week, so once that is complete, it's my turn!! Will
scoutm Report post Posted October 16, 2006 You may want to consider an area just north of the Barboot Ranch. There is a locked gate but the rancher grants access if you call him. It's kind of thick. You can't hunt the private property but that's not a problem as the WT are on public land. Was in there a few years ago and saw some nice WT Bucks. Send me a PM and I will give you more specifics.
