drop away rests

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to purchase a drop away rest and was just wondering which ones you would all recommend and why? I'm considering these 4.

1. Nap

2. Trophy taker shaky hunter

3. Muzzy zero effect

4. Rip cord

Price not being a factor which one would you use and why?

Thx

Mike

I shoot the Trophy Taker and like it a lot.

I shoot the rip cord out of a mathews switchback and my arrows fly perfectly. I heard from a number of bow shops that the rip cord is the only rest that actually gets out of the way of the arrow quick enough for todays faster bows.

What kind of bow do you shoot??

I have been using the DropZone on my LX for a few years with no problem.

With the Trophy Taker, you may want the support with the deeper V, and put some moleskin or adhesive felt on it.

I shoot the quick tune 2000 drop away from NAP and have good luck with it but only because I have tuned my bow to it. The rest does not completely get out of the way of the fletchings and after a lot of shots I end up with wear on them. If I had to do it over again I would try another brand but I don't want to retune.

For right now I shoot a mathews ultra 2. That switchback xt has been calling my name for a while though.

I want a drop away rest that has good arrow containment when my arrow is knocked but I'm not drawn back. Thankyou everyone for your responses!

I have a drop away that is made by PSE (can't remember the model name at this time) that I like a lot. It doesn't seem to quite get out of the way entirely but it might just need some adjustment. The thing that I like most about it is that both before you draw it holds the arrow on its own. When you draw it then comes up and brings the arrow to the correct spot on the rest. The biggest complaint that I have heard about drop away rests is that it is difficult to keep the arrow on the rest before you draw (like during a stock), which this rest eliminates that concern. I'll look at the model name if you are interested.

I have the rip cord rest and I really like it a lot. Since I got this rest I have been shooting more consistently and have tightened up my groups by quite a bit. One of the nice features about it is that you can let the rest come up as you draw or you can cock it in place before you draw. There is also a little containment finger that keeps the arrow from comming off during a stalk or while drawing back. The only thing that I dont like about the containment finger is that it is plastic and could possibly break, but other than that this is an awesome rest!

I have a ripcord on my XT and have had no problems with it. The guy who set up my bow said it was one of the easiest rests to setup and tune.

I've had no problems with the ripcord but I'm not sold on the ease of adjusting. I'm leaning toward the Vital Gear Kaz away or something like that for my next purchase. Full containment and looks alot easier to fine-tune adjust and probably a little quieter.

all in all I like the ripcord and being able to lock it into place and have full containment. It is a little noisy though, make sure you put moleskin etc... on before you tune.

Good luck

The PSE rest is the Phantom Drop-Away arrow rest. http://www.pse-archery.com/prod.php?k=6038...389&u=41323

It comes with a little foam arrow holder as shown in the picture but I couldn't keep it from falling off so I just put leather on my bow to quiet it when drawing back. Once you have the arrow knocked there is no way it is going to fall off the rest unless you hold your bow upside down. It does not matter what position the arrow is in when you draw back it falls into the 'V' in the rest. Has the benefits of a whisker biscuit in a drop away. I don't have any experience with other drop aways but I think that the only drawbacks with this one is that it may be a little louder after the shot (still pretty quiet though) and the fletchings don't seem to completely clear the rest after the shot (I still noticed a significant decrease in the size of my groups and my bow seemed to shoot a tiny bit flatter). Hope this info helped. I think that this rest is fairly new so I wouldn't think there would be very many reviews on it and once again I don't have any experience with other drop aways so I can't compare it with anything but it would take a lot to get me to switch because I really like what I have.
