Another toad hits the dirt

Recommended Posts

unfortunately this is what hunting has come to. It is all about who gets bragging rights or who can make the most money off of the killing of wildlife that supposedly belongs to all of us. The selfish act of killing this trophy deer has little to do with the place he was killed and everything to do the fact that he was a TAME deer. This deer was hand fed by countless people, hundreds of pictures have been taken of him and he was admired by many. I have pictures of this deer and watched another almost as big as him beat a lady to the ground because she wasn't feeding it peanuts fast enough.

Anybody that calls himself a hunter and isn't outraged by this is part of the problem. This guy took a big round-house swing with the mallet that is driving the stake into the heart of sport hunting. If this story gets out to the news papers hunters will be crucified on all fronts. We can argue about ethics forever and never agree on what is ethical and what is not, but this just plain lack of respect and lack of common sense. Sport hunting is being attacked every day by better funded and organized groups than us. Do we really need to give them this sort of ammo to use against us? Eventually they are going to win the fight.

I have been hunting in this great state for 40 years and this is one of the most shameful acts i've seen yet. I guess congratulations are in order for this guy., and while we are at it lets congratulate the guy that shot the trophy bull between the houses illegally a couple of years ago and the kids that shoot the geese off of the pond at the park and the people that brag about the big trout they caught in the breeder ponds at the hatchery. It's all the same, it's all about the "LOOK AT ME" mentality.

Pretty harsh I know, but it is what I believe, and if we don't speak up for our beliefs we are already lost.

I think its sad when somebody has an opinion that they aren't willing to attach to their name. Having to make up a log in to disguise yourself takes away from your 2 cents.

So I guess your awfull sad often, 95% plus of the people who post on CWT.com use a screen-name... (you also, a 5minute check of your past posts show this to be the only one you attached your name to...???)

Sorry for not staying on topic, I couldn't resist...

Its not the same if this buck was shot legally.

Why is it that every time a BIG animal is taken there seems to be controversy over it? I Have a friend that shot a great big coues last week and he wont post it on here cause of threads like this. Cant wait to see what the elk season brings out.

I don't know this buck. He sure is big. That's too bad if the accusations are true. But to anyone who suggests that this is comparable to the buffalo hunts up there you're SERIOUSLY mistaken. Give it a try sometime.

Hey Bone, if your pal took the Coues legally he shouldn't hesitate to post his trophy! This clown is getting bashed because of certain circumstances!!

i dont know who this guys it but i like him already.

this tread is not about people that are jealous of a guy killing a big buck or even what side of the fence he was shot on. Or the legality of the harvest.

Its the fact that the deer was tame and hand feed for much of his life.

id rather see people road hunt...atleast those deer are wild.

Not sure people here are jealous ... but I think a lot are concerned about the circumstances. Bonecollector ... if your buddy shot a big coues he should put it on here. I'd guess there aren't any dubious circumstances on his hunt, and I love to see big deer taken and hear the story.

Legal or not legal ... that is one question, and one that needs an answer. Ethical or not ethical ... I guess everyone will have a slightly different opinion on that. Me ... I'm not shooting a tame deer, whether it is on legal dirt or not. Of course, that is assuming that I know it is a tame deer ... and there are some people making assumptions that this guy knew I. I'm not saying he did or didn't, but maybe someone should ask ...

When I hunt myself, I have some self imposed rules. I'm not shooting a spike, or a two point, or even a little 3x3. That is just me ... I'll let them grow into something I'm proud to show/post. I hunted 15 or more years before I got my first deer. It wasn't because I didn't see deer I could shoot, and it wasn't because I didn't have skill to take/make a shot. I passed up many, many deer over the years until I saw one that I could ethically take that met my requirements for a "mature buck". Go ahead ... take a pot shot and call me an idiot. I don't care. You are entitled to your opinion. I don't impose my rules on others ... just on myself.

Now for my boys, who are young ... I'd let them take something smaller ... but not too much smaller.

I still want to know the definition of a "tame" deer? Did it sit on command and sleep at the food of a bed or is the mere fact it was seen near people make it "tame?"

Sounds like this deer was well know for being hand fed, petted, etc. I'd say that is "tame", as it has lost its fear of humans. Again ... whether this guy knew it or not is another question.

Tame deer need to be shot! We shouldn't have tamed animals that might eventually bite a greeny then G&F will have to put it down. Personally I'm glad it was shot, if you want to take pictures or hand feed animals, well go to the ZOO! Shame on everyone that hand fed, posed for pictures, or petted deer like this.

Fair game is fair game!
