FlyingW Report post Posted September 4, 2013 I've had a stand in 27 since 2007 (and have trail cam pics to prove it) the number of people I have captured on my cam in that time has been a handful. I went to pull my SD card prior to the archery hunt and found another trail cam set not ten feet from my camera. To say I was furious was an understatement and my first reaction was to do bad things to the camera . Of all the public land out there , why did they have to set a cam on my stand ??? I've put in a lot of time and effort into my stand and although there are a lot of hunters in 27 who set cams on every ridge in the unit ( most of whom I know ) Out of respect , I have never encroached on their spaces. I have six children and have always taught them to respect other people's property and if you find a camera/stand to leave it alone..... Yet I'am really fighting my head over this whole ordeal !!!! ready2hunt Report post Posted September 4, 2013 I would be annoyed if someone encroached on an area I was accustomed to hunting as well but they have as much right to be there as you do. Just leave your phone # there and see if there is a way that you can both hunt the area and not conflict on dates. Is your stand over water? Clearly there is a reason you have your stand there and a reason why someone would put a camera there as well. Just keep a cool head.

It sits in a saddle and though there in water there in August ( along with the rest of the mountain ) it's dry the rest of the year . But overall has a ton of deer activity on it. As much as it eats me up inside , I would be willing to share my the spot with someone else. It's just the principal of the whole thing ..... What happened to ethics and courtesy ??? I've seen a million posts on this sort of topic . Just never thought I would be part of it !!!
dieselroe Report post Posted September 4, 2013 Let em have it. You might move on to greener pastures.
azgutpile Report post Posted September 4, 2013 What kind of stand do you have at that location? If I was out scouting for a new area and found a saddle with a lot of activity, I wouldn't let an old stand stop me from placing a camera. At the same time, if I knew someone was planning on hunting the same area, I would move on to another location.
Hornhunter247 Report post Posted September 4, 2013 You know it's public land right? I love hearing guys talk about "hunting ethics" in these kinds of posts! I hope your just being a troll trying to stir the pot lol. But let me tell you about a scenario I found this year in a unit I hunt. 3 miles from the nearest road I found a tank, a perfect secluded elk honey hole! Well in this perfect spot some one has hung tree stands in the only trees that are suitable for a stand, and padlocked them up so no there's can use or remove them. Well next year when I draw this tag, I am going to cut all of the trees down so that this guys tree stands land face down in the tank! And I'm going to hunt it! I talked to the forest service and was given the thumbs up with this plan seeing as he locked them on to the trees. Stands and cameras give you no right over another! But good luck with your spot! 1worthlessnut Report post Posted September 4, 2013 This is getting a bit ridiculous. Don't move onto greener pastures and don't be the so called bigger man by hunting somewhere else. These idiots will continue to do what they want if they always get away with it. They should have a bit more respect for the guy that got there first. I had some genius put his camera right above mine on the some dang tree and my first thought was to smash it with a hammer but instead I went to the truck and got some fishing line and hung some leaves right in front of his lens. Hope he got some great photos.
Alpinebullwinkle Report post Posted September 4, 2013 My brother usually hangs something I can't expand on in this forum when something like the above happens to our setups!
FlyingW Report post Posted September 4, 2013 As I have said before , I know there's been many conversations on this topic but never paid much attention to them. I would first like to commend the three CWT members who pm'd me within the first thirty minutes of this post hoping it was not them who set up near me. I have offered to help these individuals in any way I can. They are true sportsmen !!!I'm well aware that my stand is on public land and "stands and cameras give you no right over another ". I do not leave my stand there all year ( only my camera) and check it faithfully every two months. Considering that 27 is one of the larger units in the state ( with a good portion being wilderness area) it is my personal opinion that if you have to hang a camera next to someone else's , as a hunter , what does that say about your hunting ability ??? I don't care how big a deer or elk someone else is seeing on their trail cam , I personally could not hang a cam next to theirs in good faith. Again , I appreciate all the feedback I have received on this topic...
25-06 Report post Posted September 5, 2013 Get over it...It happens and it aint that big of a deal. My son spent hours building a blind just to find another fellow sittin in it on opening mornin. He just walked away and said oh well this guy has just as much right as I do.
johnnie blaze Report post Posted September 5, 2013 Cams should, and probably will be, banned. That being said... whats the diff from a cam or blind/stand being up all year? No one hunts 24/7. So, no one else is allowed to scout the same area as your cam is placed? Sounds hypocritical to me.
Workman Report post Posted September 5, 2013 Get over it, that's public land for ya. Just be thankfull your camera was still there in one piece and not bashed in like some assfaces do to them!

So, no one else is allowed to scout the same area as your cam is placed? Sounds hypocritical to me. I couldn't disagree more with first part above.... My wife and I try to run trail cams year around... but Especially in summer. It our hobby, our year around time in the woods together, whether we have tags or not. We rarely ever even hunt many of the places we set cameras... we just love setting and checking them and the good times we have while doing it. And to even suggest that they should be banned its total BS... However, the rest of the statement above is quite true IMO... I would not hesitate to hang a camera near or even on the same tree as someone else... but that does not mean that I am willing to incite the drama of hunting it...
johnnie blaze Report post Posted September 6, 2013 BS? Really? We as human beings cant control ourselves. Look at OHVs, baiting,etc... their all fun to use, but so is alcohol.
Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted September 6, 2013 BS? Really? We as human beings cant control ourselves. Look at OHVs, baiting,etc... their all fun to use, but so is alcohol. ...and someone... with a "Holy-er than Thou" attitude always has to draw a line for others saying what is too much... Like I have always said if it doesn't work for you that is fine... I won't condemn you for your opinion, but leave my hobbies alone... and the hobbies of others. Get sooo sick and tired of do gooders dictating to others how they should live. Just like the new NFL rules on show boating... Really!!?? Geez it is just a game and the celebrations that go on during the game are part of why I watch! The thought process that we can legislate mankind to the point where one Can control themselves is a Progressive view that absolutely sickens me. It is happening at every level of American life today and if it keeps going we will end up just like Russia and China.... and Jonnie, I don't know you and I am not calling you out... but Dang man.... I bet there are things you do that I don't like just like there are things I do that you don't like... So lets just live and let live man. I wanna ban all coalitions not create more... there is no freedom in more laws... Good Hunting....
