I have never had someone steal a camera or a stand, much less set up near me. Could I be hunting too far from a road, population or something?

...and someone... with a "Holy-er than Thou" attitude always has to draw a line for others saying what is too much... Like I have always said if it doesn't work for you that is fine... I won't condemn you for your opinion, but leave my hobbies alone... and the hobbies of others. Get sooo sick and tired of do gooders dictating to others how they should live. Just like the new NFL rules on show boating... Really!!?? Geez it is just a game and the celebrations that go on during the game are part of why I watch! The thought process that we can legislate mankind to the point where one Can control themselves is a Progressive view that absolutely sickens me. It is happening at every level of American life today and if it keeps going we will end up just like Russia and China.... and Jonnie, I don't know you and I am not calling you out... but Dang man.... I bet there are things you do that I don't like just like there are things I do that you don't like... So lets just live and let live man. I wanna ban all coalitions not create more... there is no freedom in more laws... Good Hunting....

Agreed 100%

The more of this stuff I read, the more I think about just selling all my cameras on ebay.

I miss the days when I used to go whereever I wanted in the woods without worrying over whether or not some other guy had pissed on a pine tree, thus making the entire holler his forever. It used to be nice to bump into another hunter expecting & receiving some pleasant conversation & sharing information about who'd seen what & where they'd seen it...

Get over it...It happens and it aint that big of a deal. My son spent hours building a blind just to find another fellow sittin in it on opening mornin. He just walked away and said oh well this guy has just as much right as I do.

Wow!!! Could it be that the young man is smarter than a high percentage of adults. Or could it be Dad and Mom are just teaching him how things are. I would just say to those that think they own their so called spots. Go home and check your legal documents, to see what you have deeds for. And note that if you really want to hunt on what's yours you will probably be hunting in your backyard!!! No one is in their spot 24/7. And first come first serve I thought was clear as mud. Get over it and have a back up plan. Or go back to camp or the computer and continue to whine about it. While others are enjoying hunting.

Take care, Willie

Cameras for hunters are like PED"s for professional athletes. Should have to do it like the old days. Boone and Crockett trophies from the 50's didnt get taken by getting a text message at midnight showing a 200" deer or 400" elk walked by. Get out and scout but imo leave the cameras behind. I believe it slightly takes some of the pure excitement out when you have these cameras. When you see a monster for the first time and you have your weapon with you it is much more exciting then when you've seen him 25 times on a camera. Also, I feel we need to give these animals a better chance of surviving. What happened to fair chase?

I stopped using camera's because I was concerned I would kill someone if I had another one stolen. Losing a camera is very disappointing, depressing and stressful. Using camera's was a really fun hobby for me and my friends, but after having numerous camera's stolen I couldn't handle the stress any more. I used to put a lot of time, money and gas into each set up. After walking up to the tree to find the camera gone, I felt like I was going to have a heart attack from the stress and anger. I finally realized it wasn't worth the stress. I really miss looking at all the new pictures, but I don't miss the anger I felt after having one stolen. I HATE CAMERA THIEVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For 25 plus years I have had a salt impression in an elk area that the elk are only in during the rutting season. Cattle hit the mineral blocks I set in it every year. There is a tree nearby I use for a portable tree stand. I went to check on it this season as i was helping a buddy up on his hunt. When I got there I found a trail cam on it, no biggie then I look over and straight in line with the elk trail was a new ground blind. the worst of that was the people who made it cut down every little tree in the area. The set up could only be for a head on shot.

Regardless of their lack of elk hunting knowledge when setting up a ground blind I left them a note on their chair and told them to call me if they get something down and left my number. I told them I would come help. I then went over to the camera and gave them the call me sign, they never did. I never saw or met them either.

Darn it, I missed a fun opportunity with those guys. After I got back to camp I saw my decoy. I wish I would have had it with me to go back and forth in front of the camera with it. I cant imagine how funny that would have been to the guys getting the pictures, I would have gotten a big laugh out of it too. Point here is I walked away as it is public land. i have worked on that site for years and years but it doesn't matter. If I truly wanted to hunt it I know the elk travel routes to and from the stand, i just would have hung my stand further up into the travel route.

I feel ya buddy! There is definitely a code that sportsman should follow when it comes to this. Multiple cams on a waterhole is one thing but, for someone to setup shop where you have put a bunch of work into is totally different. I have so much work time trips and money into some of my stands it would be very personal. Like if your going to put a cam on my stand you might as well sleep with my girlfriend while your at it! I know its public but theres a code and I wish people would respect that. The main point of setting up in a spot off the beaten path is to have your own little hunting oasis. What to do in this situation... Do not do anything to his cam! Thats code #1. Rather leave him a friendly note with your number so you can talk to the individual. IF you cant get him out of there I would suggest making your future stands back in areas where you know people wont stumble across them. There are plenty of outstanding areas where you more than likely wont ever get a pick of a hunter on your cam.

Big gino, after the discussion a couple of years ago with regards to tree stand pirating, i changed my out look on the whole deal. I turned my attention to finding others tree stands instead of finding my own locations. Since the majority was good with pirates at that time, i bought a black pirate patch, and a fake sword and hit the forest running. What do you think happened to all those big bucks that disappeared on your cameras last year. It was so much easier to pirate others stuff instead of finding them myself. I now have 20 cams on other hunters set ups, and it's been very rewarding. Big g , if had anything to complain about, your stand needs a much more comfortable seat, and will you please warm it up for me next time. I hunt other hunters set ups now, and the deer they spend all that time and money figuring out, it's alot cheeper for me in the long. Just wanted to say hi gino, and to watch out , this posts a time bomb waiting to go off, remember the last one. Lol
