Dove hunting who went?

Recommended Posts

I skipped dove opener this year to avoid the weekend crowds, did I make a mistake? For those that went how did you do and how were the crowds?

I didnt think it was too crowded. And we had some good guys around us calling out birds and such, was a great morning, been with those dang mosquitos.

Most guys at our dove hunt camp took their limit or near limit. Worked the tanks at Empire ranch. I was training my one year old GSP. She retrieved several birds in deep grass I would not have found otherwise. Yes, brought home my limit. Saw More birds than we had seen in years even after some rain in the area.

My buddy and I shot 21 doves on Sunday sitting on a water tank... 20 Mourners and one huge bonus eurasian collared dove. we hunted first light until about 3:30pm when we got the last mourning dove to finish up. Monday night I hunted with two other guys at the end of a shelter belt at a roosting tree and we all shot our 10 mourners. Bacon wrapped dove bites anyone??? mmmmmmm!

Crowds were about the same as last years opener. Had to instruct some hunters on shooting at low flyers (these guys walked out in front of us as we were already in position at first light) peppered us with a shot or 2. The action seemed a little bit slower than last year.
