Good Pack Needed ASAP!!!

Recommended Posts

Ok this weekend while scouting my pack got torn. The internal frame ripped out. I am now in the market for a good pack. I am want a pack with 4000 cubic inches of storage or more. Camo is not a huge deal for me but it would be a plus. My price range is unde $400. I am looking at the badlands 4500 and the kifaru long hunter 5200. Anybody else have any good options for me?

Ok I have been reading pack reviews for the last 2 hours and think I may have found the right pack but I want some feedback on it. The Eberlestock J104 pack. It seems like it will do anything that I want it to do and then some. From what I have read it would be a good pack for the day trips and a good pack for doing spike camps. Anybody on here ever use it or know someone who has?

I have one and I recommend it 100%. If you don't like it, you can always sell it on here or Ebay and get 90% of your money back. I think you'll keep it though, especially if you carry a tri-pod and spotting scope. I carry the tripod in the gun scabbard and the scope in the side pocket. That leaves the entire main compartment for food, water and big binocs.

It actually expands to 7,000 C.I. with the all the bells and whistles.

good luck.

I have it also... and so far I have no need for another pack.. Feels real good even with a good amount of weight. I don't think you could go wrong with it at all.

I'm retiring my Badlands 2200 and buying the J104 when I get back from NM this Friday! Nobody has said a bad word about the Eberlestocks! I've always loved the Badlands.......but it only takes ONE time for my equipment to fail, and I don't trust it anymore and won't use it again, regardless what the warranty is! (Both main zippers jammed and no longer work) JIM>

Christian and Jim,

You might want to consider the J105 since you can adjust for torso length and it has a plastic back-sheet in addition to the aluminum stays for more rigidity with heavy loads.

Also read where you can get some strap extensions from Eberlestock for really large loads.

I have the J104 and really like it. Haven't had the chance to pack out an animal with it, but have carried it quite a bit since I got it almost a year ago. I've weighted it down a couple of times to see how it feels, and no complaints so far. I'd recommend it.

i have the X1, it is not what you are looking for as it is too small, but i have another pack and is over 5000 if i need it. the X1 is awesome, i usually have trouble with the waist belt staying around my waist but this one doesnt have that nearly as badly as the others. i really like it.

Hey Christian:

I just got a new J104 (plus the spike camp duffel) last week. I can't wait to use it. Adjusts from 2200 to 4000+ easily (6000+ with the spike duffel). I love the rifle holder as well.

I got it direct from Eberlestock.

Good luck!

S.

Christian,

I have the Kifaru Longhunter and love it but if I not packin in for a week or more my Eberlestock J1 gets the job done and then some. The J1 is the best all around pack I have ever owned.
