Michael Report post Posted October 15, 2006 I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this area. Anyone know any good areas with unit 29?
peloncillo Report post Posted October 16, 2006 Pretty much all of 29 is good for coues. The farther you get away from the roads the better. All the popular spots are very overcrowded. If you can pack in a ways you will get away from 90% of the other hunters and stand a good chance of killing a good buck. I have hunted there many times and have the Nov. hunt this year. Heres a pic of last years buck. Good luck to you. Keven
ruffcountry Report post Posted October 16, 2006 Wow ,Peloncillo, what a nice buck, congratulations, he is a toad. Now I am really getting pumped about 29 in november. What elevation did you find that bruiser at?
peloncillo Report post Posted October 16, 2006 That buck and four others were hanging out at the mouth of a canyon and at times would be well out into what most would consider muley country. I found them in August and kept track of them up to the hunt in October. On the first day I actually was up to high and couldn't find them so I tried low and they were still there. The November hunt is different though. I consider it the toughest hunt. Good luck to you. Keven

creed_az_88 Report post Posted October 19, 2006 now thats a buck. i take it you took it dur. dec or jan. awesome pic anyway. how long ago did you take that pic. creed hey mikey you're probebly gonna have to do a lot of hiking but if you get away from all the people then youll be ok. try getting into horsheshoe cany. if its not locked off. if you want a place thats not too hard to get to then go into cottonwood near turkey creek but get there early. scouting these areas first may be a good idea. might want to find some good glassing points before you start the hunt. its a pretty thick unit so good luck. u can bet that ur gonna see a loth of other hunters in this area but you might get some infofrom other hunters as the hunt starts. good luck creed
peloncillo Report post Posted October 19, 2006 I believe I saw that pic before and it was taken in the monument. Heck of a buck though. There are lots of hunters everywhere in 29 although I don't think many make it too far from the roads. Good luck out there. Keven
