400$ quail??

Recommended Posts

Well, not quite, but the days hunt did end up costing me that much. My pup Virgil was running full bore when he hit a barbed wire fence yesterday while we were out for the first quail run of the year. We loaded him up and got him to the Emergency vet at around 8 PM. And let me tell ya those ER vets on a Sat. night are not cheap!! O'l Virg ended up with 8 internal stiches to close the wound on his brisket, 6 staples to close the skin on the wound, 2 more staples to close the wound on the top of his back, numerous smaller cuts to the face and back, and one helluva bruised ego! But he'll be alright.. just a few more scars for the ladies to dig on!!

He's one tough ol' hombre!

BTW, we ended up with 6 birdies for the hunt.. all Gambels.. missed my only shot at the one covey of Scalies we found in the morn..

Ah, the fun of owning bird dogs!!!

Hope he gets healed up pronto. I used to own horses and had one try to jump a fence and cut himself open on the post. It was over $600 dollars of stitches and that was back in the 80's. I'm sure you'll be back out there again soon. Good luck to you.

I have been warned to watch out for that barbed wire with my new pup. I am dreading the day he trys to shoot underneath. Good luck with the recovery. David
