Viper Report post Posted August 30, 2013 I know this horse has been beat to death...but I need to ask. My buddy has an archery elk hunt in a couple weeks. We have had elk camp in the same great area, near Clints Well, for the last 15 years. It appears it is now closed to camping....have to stay out along the main road. We are thinking of camping there anyway. My question is, has anyone had experience with the USFS enforcing the new policy? Have you, or someone you know, been cited, warned, etc...? What is the fine if cited? I heard AZ state agencies are not going to enforce it...is this true?

elkaholic Report post Posted August 30, 2013 here ya go!!! The Coconino National Forest is asking all northern Arizona-bound hunters to refrain from leaving their trailers unattended in the forest during the upcoming hunting season. In previous seasons, law enforcement officers have found numerous trailers parked in the forests for the purpose of reserving a location for the entire hunting season and also because the individuals did not want to haul their trailers back and forth. #Parking a trailer in the forest for this purpose violates Forest Service regulations. If trailers are left unattended for more than 72 hours, the Forest Service considers them abandoned property and may remove them from the forest. Violators can also be cited for this action. Enforcing these regulations protects the property and allows recreational users equal access to national forests. #This regulation applies to all national forests in northern Arizona, including the Coconino, Kaibab and Prescott forests. #For more information, contact the Coconino National Forest at (928) 527-3600. . Hornhunter247 Report post Posted August 30, 2013 G&F will issue you a citation if caught camping out of designated areas. The only part of the new laws that they won't enforce is the off road game retrieval. I chose to camp further than their allotted 30' last year on the kiabab nat forest and tryed to get a ticket, I won't put my kids and pets at risk by camping right next to the main road. Luckily the forest service and g&f both agreed. But do know of others that did get ticketed.
naturegirl Report post Posted August 30, 2013 I've seen zero enforcement myself. We have a camper so we camp on the main roads anyway, but in no way do we camp close to the road and we have never gotten ticketed for being too far from the road. if you are camping in an area that is closed, that does put a bigger target on you though. Willyhunts2 Report post Posted August 30, 2013 Last year I was camped just a little past the 15 feet from the road, or whatever it is, for my whole elk hunt because I didn't feel like eating everyones dust. Forest service stopped by and just wanted to give us a map of the closes roads everytime but we already had one. Disnt get harassed at all for being to far off the road but I have a feeling it might be a different story if you are actually camped off a closed road. Good luck. Elkaddict Report post Posted August 30, 2013 Looking forward to seeing what everyone has to say after this weekend. I've seen trailers parked in the woods for the last couple of weeks, as I'm sure everyone has.

This particular road isn't closed...but apparently closed to camping. I guess I better find "the map" to be sure. My buddy wants to camp there anyway. 4Falls Report post Posted August 30, 2013 There really only concerned with hunters. Recreational campers will most likely get a pass.
