More D Report post Posted June 9, 2004 Something just came to mind that I have been wanting to ask you all. This last Jan while heading home from 36A on Sierrita Mtn Rd. at one of the stores a guy saw us in uniform (camo head to toe) and asked how we did. This guy was very nice, recommened some spots, lots of helpfull tips about the area. Just what we needed. One of the areas he recommened we knew about but we also knew that it was posted as "private property, no hunting, no nothing" He told us that that was NOT true and that it was state land, infact he knew who put up the sign and they did so to have there own little area to hunt for them selfs. I don't belive he was trying to get us into troble because 3 of the areas he recommened we knew to be great spots the other two later proved to be good also. We chose not to try because we didn't want to get into any trouble with the WM or any locals. Any one come across this?
Guest Ernesto C Report post Posted June 9, 2004 I think you have to make some phone calls and find out by your self if it is private property or not, most of 36A is state land but do some research and find out. About 3 years ago we were quail hunting when a guy came from behind me and told me I couldn't hunt there because it was private property.I knew he was lying but I did not want to argue with the guy so I told him that I will leave. The guy chase my brother (who was shooting at some quail) and let him know that that was private property,mi brother told him private property my ... Ok the guy said I'm going to call the cops,my brother told him, here, you dont have to walk home to call them (my brother was giving him his cell phone) you can call them from here. Yes there some people that will do anything to keep you away from their "best hunting spots" More D like I told you before you have to do your home work and find out by your self. Good luck and God bless. Ernesto C.
Diamondbackaz Report post Posted June 10, 2004 Go down to a BLM office and buy a 1/100,000 scale BLM map of the area. Many have been updated and now include topography. These maps are excellent will show you what land you are on. You can get them at map stores but the BLM will be your cheapest source at $5.00. Go to: http://www.az.blm.gov/dir.htm for locations of BLM offices.
Elmacho Report post Posted June 11, 2004 I have had this happen in several places. Colorado, California and Arizona. Even had a guy tell me I was trespassing on his property, when I was on my uncle's property. A guy in Colorado pointed a gun at my buddy and I way up near the top of a mountain and told us we were on his mining claim.....B.S. He eventually ended up in federal court for blocking national forest roads, misrepresenting guided hunts on "private property, etc...... It's not worth getting into a tangle in the middle of nowhere. Take plate numbers, get a good map and determine if you were violated and report to police. Good luck, hunt hard. Mark
