First Deer Hunt - 30b

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I got drawn for whitetail at the end of October in 30b. This is my first Deer hunt and although I have heard the area can be challenging i'm really excited to get out.

We went down and scoped out the Dragoon area this weekend. We came in one of public access points at at the north west end of the mountains, and also checked out the much of the area around cochise stronghold.

My question is, are there areas in the Dragoon range that I want to focus on or could one place be just as good as another?

Also, should we consider hunting down into the Mule mountains from the Tombstone side instead?

I'm not afraid to get out and Hike as much as I need to, but given my lack of experience im just trying to be as prepared as I can.

I know there are some other threads on 30b as well, but any advice you guys can throw my way will be appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Will

I will be in that unit with the wife on her hunt if you see a white 4 door Chevy pick up flag me down I will point you to a good place just like a member on here did for me last year oh yeah there is an orange cammo cwt.com on the back window. I would help more now but wife would kill me. In the field she will understand more.

Dragoons will have more public land ... I've helped by hunting partner tag out twice, I also hunted this unit twice (not successful). Since you're the first hunt in the unit show up a day or two early and scout. Get away from the roads, look at maps and get into some secluded areas...you'll find deer. Oh and glass glass glass go over areas you just looked at ....

I drew a Dec tag for this unit ... I haven't hunted this unit for 8 years, can't wait to go.
