Has anyone entered a pick up skull into the B&C record books? Several years ago I picked up a lion kill that netted 1125/8. The official measurer I used said I should enter it in the books as a pickup. I have never been a record book person, mainly because my bucks usually fall short, so I don't know the process. Would it be worth it you any of you to enter one you found? Seems like a nice way to honor a regal buck felled by a lion. I would be interested in your opinions.

Idaho,

I think any and all heads that make the minimum should be entered into the book for posterity. People that have high interest in the out-of-doors want to know what kind of scores come from where. It increases our knowledge and honors the animals. That's the way I feel about the giant Apache Coues that has recently surfaced - if it is legit, it should be recognized.

Having said that, I have picked up 2 muley skulls out of unit 10 while bowhunting over the years that gross over 200" and haven't had them officially measured. I need to knock those up a couple of notches on my priority list.

I know some guys that won't enter anything into the book because they think it's vanity and because of how this vanity pressures some of our weaker brothers into illegal activities - to build or maintain reputations. I understand their point and respect that view, however I believe this robs the rest of us of knowing the whole harvest history. The record books are rich.

Stick your pick-up into the book. We want to see it there.

Mike

My feeling on this is that, if You think You want to enter the buck, Then do it! I personally think that it is pretty cool that you actually found that lion kill. It makes you realize how many Buck`s actually never get entered. It also let`s you know that there are good genes in that area, so thats pretty cool also. My brother in law killed a 138 5/8'' Coues buck several years back. It is an awesome trophy an 8 x 11 nontypical with really good mass and he never has entered it, I guess its`s just a matter of personal opinion. I, like Rembrandt, think other people really like to know about that stuff, and also why don`t you send Amanda some pictures.Ya, pictures, pictures, us CWT members love pictures. Good Luck in the fall draw. If you want to enter it, do it soon. B&C is going to up the entry fee from $25 to $40 starting July 1. It is the first time they have raised the fee in about 21 years.

If your entry is postmarked before July 1 then you can pay the old fee. Afterwards it's 40 bucks. However, with the later you will get a one year subsciption to Fair Chase (B&C's quarterly magazine).

If you need help getting your buck entered, just let me know. Or just contact the measurer who scored it.

Amanda
