Headed out this morning for my archery bear hunt full ofexcitment. Got to the mountain at 5:00am and than hiked in 1.5 miles. When I get to my spot I find another hunter in the ground blind I built. I was a little pissed because I had hiked all that way to find him in there. I talked to him for a while and he said he was going to sit in it all day. So I checked my cameras and looked at the resent bear activity. I told him he can sit the water and ill go somewhere else. All I did was hike about 70 yards to the left on the trail the bears where coming in in lol. So I just planted myself down on a rock in a canyon with no cover. As I was passing the time by playing games on my iPad I heard some leaves russle. I look up behind me and there was a beautiful blonde bear 20 yards. But once I haven't been down there to set up for hunting there was a lot of brush in my way, and so the bear just keep coming straight at me. At about 7 yards I had a clear shot, and as I was squeezing the trigger the bear winded me and jumped up to make an exit. The arrow flew connecting with the bear as he ran off I could see the arrow sticking out of its back hardly any penetration. When I went to squeez he was broad side and in just that small moment it threw the shot off. I went to where he. Was hot and the was ZERO blood! Confused I called some friends and looked for hours. In the end I didn't find any blood at all and no bear. Where do you guys think I hit and do you ink it survived? I am very upset with my self for not being able to find it but I know that's how hunting goes sometimes.

Bears are extremely tough. Their anatomy is a little different in that you have to place the shot further back than you might think. The area around the shoulder is thick with bone and muscle. Help us out, when you say you could see the arrow sticking out, was it high up in the thigh?

I had him broad side but as I squeezed the trigger he spooked, making the bad arrow placement high up towards the spine

Just monitor your cams, I am sure it will return. Did you have any previous photos of the blonde?

There's a good chance that bear is alive and will probably be back for water. The cams will be your best bet and check them as often as you can.

Sorry for your bad hit but I got a gut feeling this story is going to continue. Good luck! :)

Bummer on the shot. Bummer that someone else was already there; but I can't imagine being mad at them. If you started at 5am, they must have started earlier.

Well I will be out there looking for it. I won't shoot another bear ill just wait for that one to come around. I still would like my brother to get a chance at a bear, so ill leave the rest of the bears for him to choose from.

No kill. We'll non that I was able to find at lest. The bear I shot never came back to the water. I had some close encounters with 3 other bears but wasn't able to get a shot off. Over all it was a lot of fun and a lessened learned for me.
