desertsheep Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Do any of you guy know, or have you seen where I might be able to find a mounting bracket to offset a scope. I have a guy that wants to go to Mexico to hunt with me. He is right handed. But cant see out of his right eye that well. So he needs to have a bracket to off set the scope so he can still rest his cheek on the stock, work the bolt, but look through the scope with his left eye. Any help would be great. Thanks. DesertBull Report post Posted October 11, 2006 A couple years ago I read a story in Trophy Hunter magazine about a kid that was nearly blind. He drew a Kaibab tag and his dad had a scope mount made that is similar to what you describe. The scope was offset so the kid could hold the rifle but his dad looked over his shoulder and helped him aim it. I think there was a gun smith in Gilbert ("Van" something er other was his name) that made it for him. You are probably going to need to have something fabricated. Possibly a peice of bar stock with holes drilled on one side to match the rifles scope base holes and on the other side of the bar stock another set of holes to attatch the new scope base and rings to. It should not be that expensive to have made. Just make sure you have the material squared up and leveled so that it lies perfectly square and have the holes tapped to match the threads of the mounting screws. Get some torx head screws that you can really bear down on, especially on the side that mounts to the rifle. I would have all the edges of the bar stock rounded off as well as the corners. You will probably want to use Leupold type mounts on the scope so that you can adjust the windage to somewhat aligne the scope to the barrel, since it is offset. Good Luck! Guest Ernesto C Report post Posted October 11, 2006 DesertBull, I remember that article really well,I also read that adventure that kid had with his father. desertsheep, I will look in my boxes full of magazines to see if I can find that article/magazine because I remember he provided the name of the gunsmith that build that scope mount. Another thing you can do is call or email Trophy Hunter Magazine and describe them that article and explain them what you are looking for, maybe they will find it for you. God bless.
