Where the heck can I get block ice? Anyone purchase lately? Leaving Friday night for deer hunt and 2 places I checked didn't have block?

Oh and good luck to all Archery deer guys. 8 days in for me or bust.

+1 to the above comments. I personally use dry ice in a paper sack. Its about $6 a block but lasts a long time. Your can get it at fry's too

Empty milk jugs or 2 liter soda bottles. I line the bottom of my ice chest with them. Works great and you can re use them a few times before they start to leak.

Occasionally you can find the 2 liters on sale for .99 so it's a pretty cheap alternative.

Also the frozen water bottles don't leak when they melt and keep your cape dry & you can slide them inside the cape to help it cool. smaller "drinking size" water bottles work too and help fill in and cool smaller areas, like around the ears.

Good luck everyone!!!!

I love the jug and bottle idea but I just dont have the freezer space. I may do some water bottles and I will have to try some more stores for blocks. Anyone ever get block ice in payson or on the way up there?

Just called the Safeway in Payson and they have some and will get more in tomorrow. Yes I am doing nothing at work except making my lists.

MULEPACKHUNTER, I'm curious, do you pack in an ice chest on your mules or does the ice stay back at the truck and trailer in case you get something down? Also, do high line your mules and hunt on foot or are they with you?

I will tell you I have not hunted much with the mules actually with me, usually I do my scouting as pack trips with the mules and then backpack in to hunt. This time I am taking the mules along and in 8 days I think I will try every trick I can. I have hauled ice chests but this time they will stay at the truck for meat if I get something. I have even hauled 2 6 gallon water jugs with the mules so its pretty much whatever you want. In az of course we need to haul feed most of the time as well. So I will pack in and then highline/hobble and hunt on foot or ride right at em or rope em or we will see.

The icechest haul is more for midnight rides with the buddies and cooler full of beer.

Thanks, that sounds pretty much like what I would do also.

I take my goats in and do all my scouting and hauling camp in and out for those trips. Then generally the weekend before the hunt I cashe a few items for the camp, (always worry if I hide it well enough) The rest I pack in on my back but the goats stay home during the hunt. If i get something down I will pack the animal or as much of it as I can out, the rest stays stashed until I return the next day with the goats to haul it all back out.
