novice Report post Posted June 8, 2004 This will be (hopefully) the first year deer hunting for me south of Phoenix. Can anybody tell me anything about 35B? Going with a buddy & our sons.
Diamondbackaz Report post Posted June 8, 2004 The Patagonia Mountains are very popular, but deer can be also found in the rolling hills and flats on both sides of the range. There are lots of roads into the area and I would suggest getting a map and explore the area before the season. I have a "South Patagonia Off Highway vehicle Guide" that shows a lot of the roads. I can mail it to you if you email me your address.
CritterGitter Report post Posted June 22, 2004 I've hunted this unit a few times, both in the patagonia mtns and the northern part of the canelo hills. There are some good bucks in both mountain ranges. If you can get down for a weekend to scout it would be helpful. Water availability seems to be most important based on my experience. Normally the big tanks are dry in the hills but depending on where the ranchers are running cattle, they may fill some of them. Check out a forest service map and check the troughs connected to the windmills. Some spots to try are around Duquesne in the patagonias and red rock west of the canelos. Red rock seems to get considerable pressure down low, so get in as far away from the roads as you can. Good Luck, Gungho Coues Nut

HillBilly_Al Report post Posted August 8, 2004 Actually if you can get them to wait until sunup, you might be able to get them to form a drive.
azcouesandelk Report post Posted August 8, 2004 35b is full nice couse bucks. My dad found a shed in that unit in some steep canyons while hunting mearns. The shed was a 9 point and had great mass. A couple of the tines have broken off over the last couple of years, but it is still a trophy in my mind.
vml Report post Posted August 10, 2004 Thx Younghunter I guess I will camp amongst the other hunters to stay fairly safe at night if there are alot IA's and then find some nice canyons to hike into during the day..its going to take me a few days to get familiar with the area since it's my first time hunting this area (I will scout one weekend)...its nice to see your e-mail about alot of bucks being in that area. It.s not a large area which might make it interesting..I have ten days to get one...vml

novice Report post Posted August 14, 2004 My son & I just spent last weekend in 35B getting our feet wet & getting accustomed to the area. Having never been down there before I was pleasantly surprised. Could not believe how beautiful the area is. Due to the decent rains the area has been receiving lately, water is not a problem. Washes have water & penty of tracks along the washes. Did not see any deer, but plenty of sign. Plan on going down again next weekend. Can't wait.
