Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted August 15, 2013 Thought I would throw this out there for my son....he has been hitting the pavement for a couple of days up in Flagstaff looking for work. He just got his associates degree down at EAC and will be attending NAU to finish up there. Any ideas that could help him land part time work would be appreciated. A few of the places he has applied: Home Depot Harkins Office Max HomeCO Barnes and Noble Fry's Cal Ranch Waiting to hear from Home Depot has already interviewed there. Interviewed at Jiffy Lube but they were looking for full time. While attending EAC he worked at Wal Mart and delivered pizza for Dominoes. I told him I was worried about delivering pizza in the winter time in Flagstaff. He worked at Lowes in Show Low this summer.
Jcubed Report post Posted August 15, 2013 I would suggest having him apply at some of the busier restaruants. May make a bit more per hour than what the businesses on the list would pay...

Big Browns Report post Posted August 15, 2013 Look at Craigslist for jobs. Sometimes they have some really good leads. You can also go to the Student center and look on the job board. When I went to school there I got several jobs off that job board wall. Have him contact some air/heating companies to see if they are hiring helpers. I know most AC companies hire helpers in the summer down here. I would imagine someone needs help during the summer. Good Luck!
IA Born Report post Posted August 15, 2013 After this week, I'd just about give him my job! Have him look at the local brew pubs up here: Lumberyard, Flagstaff Brewery, Beaver Street. They can be very busy and may be hiring now that school is starting back up. For what its worth, I really like the Homco Ace up here. I'll keep my eyes and ears open and let you know if I see any signs looking for jobs. Delivering pizza in the wintertime isn't that bad. Streets get cleared fairly quickly after storms. I tend to tip delivery folks very well!
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted August 15, 2013 I worked at Home Depot while I was up there at NAU... I really liked it. Have him see if Preston still works there... If he does, tell him Casey sent him... Now, theres a chance he wont remember me as he nearly died in a hunting accident a few years ago and from what I have been told, lost some memory... If he is still there, he is a great guy to work for. Big time bass fisher, and hunter. Another place to work is called Western Technologies. I worked there as well. That was/is my only time spent any where near the construction field (inspection portion) and I learned a lot there. There are opportunities to work 20-60 hours there. When I was there, the OT was unlimited so long as there were job sites. Made good money for a college kid at the time there, of course I spent much of it at The Museum Club but...

Plus, busy restaurants and cash tips equal more rifles!

THOR Report post Posted August 15, 2013 I know Fat Olives (Italian) is hiring and Salsa Brava (Mexican) might as well. My uncle owns them both. they are right on the strip. They are also going to be opening up a Coffee shop here soon around those places. They are both very busy and is a hot spot for food (award winning) and drinks but not a crazy bar/party seen. Flatlander Report post Posted August 16, 2013 Construction is booming. I always did that with whatever time I had. It served me well, I am still in construction after graduating college.
Coach Report post Posted August 16, 2013 The Flagstaff Xtreme ropes course looks like a really fun place to work for a young guy, if he's into that sort of thing. Also, if he has access to a truck, trailer, some simple yard work tools like rakes, shovels a weed-eater, lawn mower, maybe a chainsaw, and snow-blower, there always seems to be high demand for that kind of work. My oldest son just turned 16 and he's been doing odd jobs and yard work and stays pretty busy, and the money is darn good if you do a good job and get personal referrals. I know of a guy here local that got some yard work which amounted to nothing more than cutting down a 40' row of dead 4' tall dead evergreens and hauling them off to the tune of $600 - that's about 2-3 hours of hard work max and having the right tools and a trailer. Snowplowing driveways at $20-30 a pop can earn a good paycheck every good storm if you've got clients lined up and do a good job. All those places you listed are good starting points, but probably won't teach him the things he will learn (or pay as much) as some type of simple self-start business that he is in control of where he has to advertise, get the job done right, be accountable, and ultimately own the fruits of his labor. IA Born Report post Posted August 16, 2013 There's also Warner's Nursery, especially for landscaping and snow removal. Flagstaff Athletic Club also has a bunch of college kids that work there. They have two locations (east and west) and seem to always be hiring off and on. I think you get a membership discount, too. My daughter's soccer team manager is the GM over there so I'll ask her if they are hiring when I see her tonight at our team meeting.

Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted August 16, 2013 I started out at Hunts Lumber in 83.......while I was going to school. Because I was interested in woodworking I then went to Anderson Woodworks and worked there for 6 years before I headed off to teach in Ash Fork. Lots of good friends and memories of the winter snows and doing a 360 right there at the intersection by where Target is now. Put a flatlander up there on the icy roads and you got some issues. That was a long time ago......I enjoyed working living and working there but could never get used to the Phoenix like traffic in such a small town..... Thanks again to all who have given Wyatt some ideas for employment.
