Salmon, Striper, Sails, Smallies

My Dad with Salmon from Lake Onterio tribs, sailfish from Mexico, and the first photo I ever took of fishing/hunting, my younger brothers first fishing trip with me and our Dad, he out-fished me that day, more and bigger smallies and beating his big bro gave him the big azz smile...

I've never been for bill/sail fish, but would love to sometime. My motion-sickness afliction (I'm an expert, believe me..... ) keeps me on-shore. Maybe someday I'll venture there though....

Which Ontario trib was that salmon from? I used to fish Eighteen Mile, Oak Orchard and Sandy.

How much did that salmon weigh???

I think it was Oak Orchard, that trib STILL is killer for 20lbs plus brown and rainbow trout, good steelies and salmon.

My biggest rainbow ever, 19lbs, was caught there on an 8wt flyrod swinging a black leach...

 

 

Yeah, had pretty good luck down there since I was a kid. I used to hammer the browns on super-sized march brown and stonefly nymphs and olive bunny leeches. Good to know there's a guy on here that has experienced the good parts of NY state like I have. I caught and released a steelhead out of Cayuga Creek in Lancaster on a yellow sucker spawn that weighed in at 16lbs- and it was a male!!! I should go find the picture...

That sailfish picture is awesome. If you killed a sail today you'd get burned at the stake.

yeah DB, my Dad and I would try to release as many as we could, but the local guides wanted "fish hero" photos at the dock, we tried to only keep the bad bleeders and fight them "down and dirty" to land them as fast as we could so they would have a better chance of surviving...

BTW Sails are VERY good eating...
