Critter Report post Posted August 10, 2013 7W is full of good bulls... just gotta get out and glass from some high points until you find one. there is no magic spot other than just getting out and finding them before your hunt. AZHNTR67 Report post Posted August 10, 2013 Yes, I have killed 4 bulls with my bow. Biggest one is around 340. Looking to break 350 this year. Someone told me to bring my canoe this year in 7W. Heard the tanks are over flowing, green and antler growth is fantastic! Gonna see alot of 400+ bulls killed this year I think... We will see soon enough! There's going to be great vegetation now of course, but in April/may and most of july when they were growing those antlers big there wasn't much rain at all. Hornhunter247 Report post Posted August 10, 2013 The antler growth won't be helped much by the monsoons that hit in July. Keep in mind that most bulls are done growing around the first of aug and only the back end of their antlers are still putting on inches in July. Flash Report post Posted August 10, 2013 Agree, the monsoon moisture helps out the deer, but elk are close to done in July when the rain starts. The extra rain just adds more water sources to keep elk spread out and concentrated on bog water holes. Good hunting can be found in most of the pine country. If you can get after it, Kendrick mountain wilderness and surrounding area (pumpkin center, wildhorse canyon, bull basin) is great during that hunt. Also the far east edge of the unit where the Kaibab and Coconino forests meet produces stellar bulls. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

zukicrazy Report post Posted August 10, 2013 I scouted the north east of the unit doesn't look to good, ponds have little to none water I like buck tank but its bone dry hibben is bone dry indian has some water in it looks like it hasn't got much rain .I was told by a couple guys that the Kendrick area area has got the most rain , I don't have a tag I was just looking for a friend that has one plus my other buddy has 2 cow tags . The monsoons may have been late for antler growth, but the bulls will rut harder with all the rain that we did finally get. Which if they rut harder, then hunt success will go up. I agree, I feel like it's going to cool off earlier and those units are going to hit the rut really good. Just an opinion though.
