22N Question

Recommended Posts

I'm going to help my brother with his Nov. rifle bull hunt in 22N.

Will elk we've been seeing this summer be in the same general areas in November or should we wait to scout more in Oct/Nov?

Thanks,

The Elk that you are seeing in the open fields, open slopes, open area's will either be dead or headed for cover. Looking for Elk in 22N is not as Important as looking for little holes that will hold Elk in November when the pressure hits. If you find something, make sure you are in a shooting position on opening morning, not a glassing position. Look for the thickest, nastiest stuff and you should be able to find some Bulls.

This unit used to be Awesome! With G&F adding all the tags the past 5 years the Unit has really suffered.

Pray for Rain & Snow! The more rain & snow you get, the better the hunt becomes!

Feel free to pm me for more info.

+ 1 what he said....

The bull in my avatar is my son's 1st bull he killed at under 80 yards when he was 11. It was in the DEC hunt of 22n. He killed another one on the same hunt 2 years later 1 canyon away from this one. Stay away from open meadows as they won't do anything for you after 2 mins into opening day. Both canyons were full of "fresh" elk sign - not old stuff. His second bull was running with 9 others in one 3 mile long canyon so they were easy to find each day.

I would start scouting now to understand where you expect the elk to move into once the shooting starts. Learn your entrance / exit strategies and glassing points into those canyons. Shoot me a PM if you want to see some bulls from the past couple seasons to get you fired up.

Thanks again for the info guys that makes a lot of sense and gives me a better idea of where to concentrate our scouting.

I sent you a PM Big Browns but your inbox must be full.
