SO I HUNT Report post Posted August 3, 2013 I'm sure this has been gone over, but with the market like it is on buying primers can you tell the differents between brands? Been reloading for years and to be honest I can't unless I was bench shooting, but for hunting?
rcdinaz Report post Posted August 3, 2013 Yes! Some burn hotter, quicker, and they can be harder metal from one brand to the other. All that being said for some loads it seems to change nothing. I have had some loads cut ES in half from teens to highe single digits, not for many loads but a few.
STOMP442 Report post Posted August 5, 2013 Yes they can be different. When I find a great load for my rifles I stick with it and don't change anything unless absolutely necessary. That being said I would hold out until I could find the right components. If you do switch spend the time to verify your loads at all distances to verify that the new primers are going to work OK. Scooter Report post Posted August 7, 2013 Primers can change between LOT numbers... let alone brand to brand.
