azhuntnut Report post Posted October 6, 2006 I have been considering trying a new pair of boots. I have recently been using the Danner Pronghorn uninsulated for the last couple years, but only seem to get one season out of them before the sole wears out or they start to leak a little. Has anybody tried these boots made by Cabelas? I like the idea of them being lite and fast break in period. I imagine they must be pretty tough also. What do you think? azryan Report post Posted October 6, 2006 i have rockys and am kinda dissapointed with them. because they are all torn up on the bottom and near the ankle on one of the boots the stitching came apart and now have a hole...and i have only had them for a year...and not a big amount of hunting done in them....but i guess this az terrain really wears these boots down....but overall they are the best boot i have had by the way of comfortness. i was thinking about getting a cabelas brand... More D Report post Posted October 6, 2006 I have had great experience with Columbia hiking boots. Back in the spring of '02 I bought some boots for about $110 called Elk hunters or Elk ridge, I can't remember. At only 6 inches tall I was a bit nervous about using a "hiking boot" for hunting but it worked out great. They were VERY comfortable, all leather and waterproof. I would have then shined regularly and they would even clean up real well too. During the '05 Javi hunt water got in them, I was disapointed because they were so comfortable but I had almost gotten 3 years out of them. I was surprised to find out on there web site that they had a "Lifetime Warranty" It cost me $13 for UPS and they sent me a NEW pair for the same boot in the latest version called Diamond Peak. I thought that was pretty cool! This new pair were just as good if not better than the first pair. A dream to break in and very comfortable. With me helping on three Elk hunts up north and two deer hunts down in southern Az, it was a busy year. I think I shined this new pair of boots only once and they paid for it too. The seam along the outer edge came apart. I figured no biggie, I will send them in for a new pair. I looked up Columbia's web site to find this: We do not offer a warranty on our footwear. Because quality control is an ongoing process, whenever there is a problem with the manufacturing or materials of our footwear products, we would like to evaluate it. If you have a problem with your footwear within the first year of usage, please send it shipping prepaid to: COLUMBIA SPORTSWEAR COMPANY Attention: Warranty Department 7000 N. Leadbetter Rd. Portland, Oregon 97203 I called and the rep said that the boots have to have some tread left on the bottom and if I sent them in they would be "evaluated" "So they do have a warranty?" I asked " No, but send them in and we will take care of you if it has been less a year." I answered "It has been 1 year and 5 months" He said, "Send them in anyways" So I will let you know how this turns out, they have had them for only a week. I really don't care if they don't "warranty" them or not I will still buy the same exact pair. That is how much I like them. I recommend what ever you get to have them shined regularly. Redman Report post Posted October 6, 2006 I have had Danner, Rocky, Orvis, Redhead, and numourous off brands. They all pretty much fall apart after one season. The Danners are nice since they have a one year warranty. I know I will be using it later after the season. Redman
azhuntnut Report post Posted October 6, 2006 I actually warrantied one pair of the Danners within a year. The pair they sent out to me said that they could not be warrantied if there were any problems since the other pair only had about a month left on the warranty. These lasted about 10 months before the leaking started and one seam ripped. I will say though that I put a ton of miles on my boots in the desert and high country. They have been the most comfortable pair of boots I have had so far, but I would like to get a little more use out of a pair of boots. I have tried all of the others except Cabelas. I guess I will give them a try and see what happens. David
DEERSLAM Report post Posted October 6, 2006 I have had good success with Cabelas Meindl boots. I had a pair of their Meindl Canada boots that I returned after nearly 2 years, seam was coming apart after only 2 hunts the previous year, and they sent me a new pair. This year I dropped some serious money on some new boots, actually a boot system, and have been very impressed. The boots are made by Hanwag and the boot system comes from Lathrop and Sons. Without a doubt the best boots I have ever worn.
Kilimanjaro Report post Posted October 6, 2006 I wear Danners everyday at work and have nothing but good things to say about them. We get a bew pair every year fro work and I've never had a pair quit on me in the course of a year of hard use.. I have also worn out a couple of pairs of their Canadians as well. Great boot and I will buy another pair one of these days.. I am currently breaking in a pair of Meidel Ibex. They are a bit less comfortable than the Danners, but I'm hoping they will break in and be a good boot.
elmergoo Report post Posted October 6, 2006 AZHUNTNUT-I purchased a pair of Cabela's boots. They are the all nylon , Scent-Lock, 400 gram Thin-sulate models ( for bow hunting ) Crazy comfortable. Mind you I have put only 3 scouting trips on them, averaging 3-4 miles a trip, in nasty terrain, and hot weather, with only one pair of regular socks. I love them. QUIET,WATERPROOF,and supposedly SCENT-PROOF. I only paid 100 dollars for them shipping was awesome.Time will tell ,but so far so great. Hope this helps out. firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 i have the Danner elk hunters made for cabelas. my first hunt with these boots ( my pig/lion combo) sucked! the boots were not broke in like i though and the 6 miles stalking and the 9 miles packing out for the lion really tore up my feet! than agian, that was in some of the nastiest stuff i have hiked through, but they were broke in after that! this past weekend, i quail hunted in them for about 6 hours in the pouring rain, by the end of the day, my feet were soaked, but i dont expect any boot to stay water tight in those conditios. another boots to check out are browning boots, i have one pair and they are very comfortable! azhuntnut Report post Posted October 17, 2006 I actually looked at those, but I didn't think the soles would hold up very well. I might just buy another pair of Danner Pronghorns and be done with it.
