First Time Coues Hunter - Help

I can't believe I got drawn on my first attempt - pretty fired up. So I'm in Unit 32 and have no idea where to start.

 

I get the basics and have the all the equipment, but I don't have a clue where to even begin to start glassing/scouting.

 

Anyone out there that can provide a good place to start glassing? I'll be heading down in two weeks and I'd like to have a general idea of where to begin.

The best place to start glassing is up high overlooking some draws that have food growing in them. Not trying to be a wise acre- deer are literally everywhere and if you can find food and water- you'll find deer in any unit. Get good optics and a nice soft packable cushion and use the heck out of both.

+1. I'd also add that a tripod is a must have. Glass the south and east facing slopes in the am, and the north facing slopes in the afternoon/pm hours (throw a shirt or jacket over your head, it helps when looking into the sun). And be in shape, coues country is nasty and vertical.

For sure as far as glassing and a tripod goes. I've done the muley hunt there and scouting around have seen a lot if Coues. Get high and glass the junipers. Pm me if you have problems finding them.

There are some access issues in that unit. G&F has a map that shows which gates are locked and which are accessible, might be a good idea to contact the wildlife manager down there and find out how to get your hands on one. It could save you a lot of frustration.

Thanks for the tip, I would be pretty upset if I drove all the way down there and spent my day looking for a way in. So, excuse my ignorance, but how do you contact the wildlife manager down there? Do I just call the G&F department and ask?
