More D Report post Posted July 30, 2013 My comments will mirror all the others. Use it! My ‘’only’’ hunting rifle is a Winchester 30-06 than just loves 150grn bullets. Cor-loc’s, PP or home rolled. It will shoot m.o.a or better as long as it is nothing heavier than 150’s. My longest shot was at a quartering away mulie at 406 yards. I have had the ok to buy another rifle from the boss but there is nothing my walmart bought Winchester cannot do so…… I have no plans on messing with her. I get an itch every so often when I see everyones rifles all dressed up fresh from ‘the smith’ but I am afraid I will lose what this rifle still does fresh from the box some 15 years ago. IA Born Report post Posted August 8, 2013 I'll NEVER be without my '06! Way back when I was 14 in Iowa, my dad made me get a 700 ADL .30-06, despite me wanting something else ("Its more versatile. That's what you're getting!") I spent my hard-earned detasseling money on that rifle and, eventually, a friend of my dad's hand loaded some 165 gr Hornady's for me. I found out it was a shooter! After moving to AZ, I had a good recoil pad put on, had the trigger lightened to 2.75lbs and the barrel floated and action bedded. It started printing 0.5" 3-shot groups. Shot my first Coue's WT with that rifle and several south Texas deer and hogs with it. As soon as I got into reloading, I started loading 165 gr Barnes TSX with IMR 4064 and it will print sub-half inch groups all day long. I have two other hunting rifles (.25-06 and .300WM) and my .30-06 is still my go-to. It now sports a McMillan thumbhole stock and its a love affair that will never die. I'm in the process of perfecting 168gr Barnes TTSX with the 4064 and, so far, the preliminary results are good (sub MOA), but I know I can tighten it up. Hunt Coue's with a .30-06? EVERY. DAY. ALL. DAY!!
Diamondbackaz Report post Posted August 10, 2013 My dad made me a sporterized 03A3 when I was 2 years old back in the mid 60's. It took at least a dozen coues and 4 elk. I also ended up with 2 more of the same rifles that he made since my brothers don't shoot. For the most part, I have retired it for the most part but still bring it along as a trusty back up.
