CouesWhitetail Report post Posted August 3, 2013 I had an early archery bull elk tag a couple years ago in 27. One afternoon, my buddies and I were hiking into a meadow we had found on prior day. We thought it was a remote area that no one else knew about. We planned to sit the meadow and see what came in as there were wallows there. Anyway, as you all know, unit 27 burned hot in the wallow fire and there was a lot of fine black ash in the soil. Somehow I inhaled some of that as we were hiking up toward the meadow and it set me on a GIANT coughing fit. And no matter what I couldn't stop. I was a real wreck with my eyes watering, extreme coughing and wretching. Anyway after what seemed like forever, I was able to stop. Well, we continued hiking toward the meadow we intended to hunt for the evening. And as we got near it, we saw a hunter in a stand....he waived and we waived and we decided to move off to hunt another area. But man, I felt so bad because he had obviously gotten there early in the afternoon and been set up early so there wouldn't be any disturbance in the area and then I had my giant coughing fit probably not more than 150 yards from his stand. I felt terrible, but rather than hike through the meadow to apologize, we just left the area. Sorry to whoever that was!

The blame falls on the guy's that started the fire.
Heat Report post Posted August 4, 2013 6B 2006, got it done on an elk hunt and was just hanging out in camp and enjoying my time off with some meat chilling in the cooler. I decided it was time to get a good washing. Was standing in the middle of my camp butt naked on my floormat doing the scrubjob. A couple came driving by and I just waved at them. I might have "messed up their hunt"! LOL! Nick

tjhunt2 Report post Posted August 4, 2013 Many moons ago I was hunting in 24B for deer and spotted a herd of javelina. I have a fascination with these animals and decided I would sit and watch them for awhile. A few minutes had gone by and I caught some movement out of the corner of my eye. At first I couldn't make out what was crawling towards the pigs at a very slow rate. It obviously was stocking the pigs whatever it was. By the time I figured out what it was not only was I a total basket case with nerves but the wind was blowing so hard I could hardly keep it in my rifle scope. It had to be 200 yrds and I missed with my first shot. It turned and ran up over a huge rock and as it leaped thru the air, which would have been my last view of it, I pulled the trigger. I have to admit it was a lucky shot and I certainly messed up someone's hunt. Lion #1 is hanging on my wall. TJ

naturegirl Report post Posted August 8, 2013 Yes I have. On my first archery deer hunt my husband and I were both sitting different tree stands on the same water hole for 5 long days. We had elk galore come in and a couple does. Well right before dusk I look over and there's a buck about 100 yards just at the edge of the woods. I tried everything to get my husband's attention and then I did a bad thing and I whistled. The deer ran away fast and kept running. Then I wasn't as confident on ID'ing mule deer and WT, but I would've sworn it was a WT rack and he ran like a WT. I still kick myself in the rear for that one. Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted August 8, 2013 Hunting with my wife in unit 10 trying really hard to get her a shot. I am glassing, she is sitting next to me, the ridge we are watching is such that we have several clear lanes for shooting. All the sudden 3 bucks show up about 150 yards away in one of these lanes. All she has to do is pick one and pull the trigger. I keep telling her....honey, the one on the left, shoot him he is the biggest......no honey the one on the left....... She had her gun up and crosshairs already on the buck on the left but because I told her the buck on the left she pullled up to take another look before shooting. In the mean time the bucks busted us and took off. She shoulda just shot instead of listening to me.......and she reminds me every year how I messed that hunt up 20 years ago...... IA Born Report post Posted August 8, 2013 The first year I archery hunted up here after moving to Flagstaff, I was out still hunting, sneaking around 11M on opening morning. I knew there was a water hole north of me, so I moved that way with the intention of sitting on it for a bit. Found it and grabbed myself a nice comfy spot to wait. I was so focused on what I was doing that I didn't even see the guy in the tree stand 12' above me. He whistled at me and I felt like a total heel. I hung my head and apologized, but he was cool about it. I know its public land, but I felt horrible. We chatted a couple of minutes about the lack of movement and he pointed me in the direction of a saddle where he'd seen a couple decent bucks a week prior during his scouting. I ended up seeing a nice 3x4, but it was after I woke up from an awesome nap under an oak tree. We both stared at each other from 70 yards away. Despite my best effort to hurry back into stealth mode, it was over before I got three steps! The next day, I was set up on the crossing of a trail and an old two track not far from the previous encounter. I was sitting there all stealthy when I heard a quad come down the two track towards me. They guy saw me sitting there, stopped and waved before turning around. I was just about to get mad, when I remembered the guy from the day before. I took a deep breath, smiled, and waved a "thank you" at him for turning around. Last year, during archery elk in 6B, I was up and in the woods early waiting for good enough light to move on in. As I was sitting there, I heard a truck pull up and park right next to mine. To say I was upset is an understatement. I was hoping he went to the other side of the road, but nope; two hours later, I saw him 100 yards from me, moving the same direction. I think he finally saw me and moved off, but I was livid at that one. In all my years of hunting, if I see a vehicle where I want to be, I end up going somewhere else since I don't know which direction they went. I don't want to ruin their hunt or mine by bumping something. When I got back to my truck, there were his boot and tire tracks within 10 yards of my truck, but he wasn't there. AndrewJ Report post Posted September 19, 2013 When I was a kid we were at our cousin's cattle ranch out in the middle of nowhere. Went with them to feed the cattle with the stock truck. We were out on a sagebrush covered hill and the saw some HUGE bucks feeding and watching us. They had landowner deer tags and left me in the truck. I had to scoot over from the passanger seat to the driver seat so they could get their guns. They jumped out and began to crawl towards the bucks. I was really tired and in the meantime fell asleep. 20 minutes later I woke up to the sound of a blaring horn. My forehead was resting on the steering wheel and it engaged the horn. They were closing in on the bucks, but the sound of the horn spooked the bucks away. I was in big trouble when they got back to the truck.
