12BW info

Recommended Posts

Hello CWT membership...we got really lucky this year and pulled a 12BW tag. I have only driven through the unit and was wondering if there are any other CWT members who have hunted this unit? Any information appreciated.

Information as to road conditions would be amazing! Am I going to need a monster truck to navigate the unit or will my car suffice?

Gonna be some looooonnnnnggggg drives from Tucson in the future...

Theirs lots of roads up there...like lots! Ever ridge pretty much. You could easily do it out of a car, just hike in off the highway. most of the roads up there are nice dirt roads to.

But seriously hiking off the highway and into the burn does wonders! Lots of biggins in there!

Is this a late hunt or early? If it snows you would be best with a truck, it gets nasty up there.

Drew the early hunt. I know it is mainly a migratory area for deer...not looking to bust a monster per se...just want a good hunt.

I kind of figured there would be lots of roads. Where is the burn exactly? Is there anywhere in the unit to park, throw on the backpacks and get away from the roads?

Deer will be slowly migrating into the unit throughout your hunt. If it's cold and snowy you'll be in for a pretty good hunt, if not find water and locate deer nearby. Either way you'll see plenty of does and smaller bucks! Good luck on your hunt!

Make a plan on paper, and scout it atleast once... whats the drive for you, like 8 hours each way? Its 5 for me, but I have more time to scout, I have the late tag. Let me/us know how you do!

Hunted it two or so years ago. Tons of road hunters and people sitting water. My son had a couple of shots but couldn't pull it together and we were the only ones I saw that hunted on foot outta backpacks. Lots a smaller bucks, the biggest we saw was a two point.

Thanks for the reports! It is a long drive for me but I will make it at least once. I'm happy that it is a unit with good numbers of deer. It isn't my tag but the hunter has never killed a big game animal so I'm assuming that seeing animals on a regular basis is a good starting point.

I will keep you all updated...
