joelbiltz Report post Posted July 11, 2013 Hi I'm new here but have been reading a bunch here. I have a August hut booked with a well respected outfitter unit 23 and will most likely be staying in Payson. What can I expect. This is my first coues hunt and am very excited. I have hunted quite a bit and actually have ten of North America species so I am a accomplished hunter. Just want to be prepared. Weather, nice places to stay, good places to eat and anything else neat to see in the area if I get done early. How bad are the snakes how bad are the mosquitoes. Most likely hunt will either be out of a blind or tree stand. Thanks for any insight.

Jcubed Report post Posted July 11, 2013 First, welcome to cwt from 24hourcampfire. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site. I know that you are with a good outfitter and I would trust what they have to say regarding your hunt. Snakes will be out but if you are careful they shouldn't be a problem. As to mosquitoes, I rarely have a problem with them, but taking some DEET may be a good idea. You are in a great elk unit as well so keep your eyes peeled for them!

Viper Report post Posted July 11, 2013 It will most likely be hot, depending on elevation, so wear something you can strip down to in the blind....shorts, boxers. Also, may get some monsoon activity, so be prepaired for rain...usually afternoons and doesn't last long. Bugs can be bad (not necessarily mosquitoes) so DEET or Thermocell or... Your outfitter should be able to fill you in on the specifics. You'll be hunting the sneakiest critter in North America so bring lots of patience. Find the entrance to their underground tunnel system and wait there
