Adopt A Ranch Project - Rodgers Trough

Recommended Posts

Dan,

You asked me once about volunteer opportunities. I just heard yesterday about a project this Saturday. The Chandler Rod & Gun Club agreed to help the JF Ranch hike(carry) 4 water troughs into the wilderness area. It is short notice, a holiday weekend, hot, and to avoid the heat they are starting EARLY, so he hasn’t been able to gather as many volunteers as he would like. With a few more folks, we expect we could be done with the job by about 9-10 am. Feel free to forward this to anyone you know who might be interested. (details are below)

Happy 4th of July,

Troy Christensen

Adopt a Ranch Call for Help

Posted on June 30, 2013 by David

The Martins at the JF Ranch will need some help moving a few water troughs at the upper portion of the ranch. After waiting for the Forest service final approval, we finally are able to proceed. We need as many volunteers as we can so we can get them all placed in one trip and get this done quickly before it gets hot. We will basically be placing 4 water troughs at various locations. This is in the wilderness area and we have to carry them in. The furthest trough will be going just under 2 miles. The troughs are small and pretty light and should be fairly easy work for 3 or 4 people each.

Details:

Saturday July 6th 4:45AM Please try to RSVP to David @ 480-290-8344.

Food will be provided.

We will meet at the Woodbury trail head at 4:45AM where we did our last fence project to catch rides down to the work site.

Below you will find directions to the work site if you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 480-290-8344. Please remember to bring lots of water and wear proper clothing; On the morning of the work day I will wait at the FS 172 turn off until about 4:15am to shuttle anyone to the site that needs a ride. A truck or SUV with 2wd will do just fine on the road. Small passenger cars may have trouble from this point. If you need a ride please contact me and I will do my best to accommodate.

Directions: From Phoenix, take Highway 60 east towards Superior. At milepost 214, turn left onto the Queen Valley Road. Follow the Queen Valley Road for about 1.75 miles and turn right onto the Hewitt Station Road (FS 357). Take the Hewitt Station Road for about 3 miles and turn left onto FS 172 – the turnoff is marked with a sign that says “Superstition Trailheads – Woodbury, Rogers Trough”. Follow FS 172 (the main road) north for 10 miles. Then, at the fork in the road, stay to the left and proceed the final 1.2 miles to Woodbury Trailhead.
