Forest closed this morning-rather stealthily done

Recommended Posts

Saw 'red flag warnings' for much of Northern AZ this morning on the weather report while I was getting ready for work. I thought about the fire danger, but didn't think of the dead trees. Looks like they're worried extra worried about folks getting injured by a falling tree and the liabilitiy that could/would go with it.

Bummer :(

This blows my mind. They are allowing campfires up there yet close the area they are allowing the fires. I will never understand the Forest service

Stage 2 fire restrictions went into effect on June 13 throughout the City of Show Low, town of Pinetop/Lakeside and the Lakeside Ranger District portions of the Apache Sitgreaves. This was advertised, though not heavily. I don't think they were trying to be sneaky and I am all for it being 'OUR' forest but them closing it was a great thing and should have been done a couple of weeks ago IMO. They don't need to advertise for days or weeks, just close it, especially with todays weather being what it was.

This isn't anything out of the ordinary. The forests are dry. Along with daily high winds, can't really blame them for being a little proactive. Usually happens with short notice.

Agreed. Too many stupid people out there. Better safe than sorry.

The residents of AZ have demonstrated through past experience that they cannot be trusted in dry forests. I love the Sitgreaves enough to live without it for a few weeks. Sucks for guys who may have cameras in there.
