Scaled and gambles quail mix?

I started feeding and watering the birds around the house and have been getting lots of quail since January. They would come in pairs, and have babies. The last two pairs I had were one gambles pair and one scaled pair. Then it seems like they swapped partners? Do the two only breed with like quail or will they mix? I've found a nest with eggs so I'm waiting to see when they hatch.

Very cool, I shot a scrambled quail many years ago on the San Carlos Reservation. I didn't realize what it was till I got home and started cleaning birds. It looked like a female Gamble's with a scaled breast.
