coues7 Report post Posted September 22, 2006 I mentioned that I saw 3 bears 2 weekends ago.....they were in the pears. What are the chances they will still be there 5 weeks later? I would think slim to none. There were pears there and that's why they were in the spot.....quite a few good oaks to. My impression of bears is that they just wonder around looking for food and a cool place to sleep. I've been trying for about 7 years now to get a bear on my own and when I saw these 3 guys I started thinkin' "THIS IS MY YEAR" Thanks

In fact, I have been seeing fresh sign in this place since March. It's all cactus and cedars. I hope they are still there on 10/06!
coues7 Report post Posted September 22, 2006 Desert Bull, I'm with you I sure hope they are still there. I've scouted and scouted and finally found a good spot. It seems like for the last 7 years that I've been trying things just didn't work in my favor......not enough scouting, not in the right area, not the right food source, didn't call long enough....etc. I hope this is my year for a bear and a monster coues. My 4 year old daughter told me last night: "Daddy, I sure hope we (love that part) get a bear this year" She's my little princess and wants a bear rug in her white and purple princess room! OH YEAH.....a little of dad rubbin' off on the princess!
hunter4life Report post Posted September 24, 2006 coues7, I would say there is a chance that they will still be in the area if there is still food available. About 3 years ago my brother and I found bears in the pears in mid-September and we saw an average of 2 bears per day when we went in there on the weekends over the next 4 weeks. After that there weren't as many bears in the area, but there were still a few and I shot one on the last day of the NM season on Nov. 15th. This area had enough prickly pears that ripened at different times that it held a fairly good number of bears for over 2 months. If the area where you saw the bears is like this, then there is a good chance that you could run into a bear 5 weeks later. I wish you luck.
