Net Minder Report post Posted September 22, 2006 Hello, archers! Well, I've been in AZ now for 5 years and I must tell you that this years has been like a reunion for the outdoors for me. I grew up in East TN and after spending 6 years in teh Marine Corps, I fell WAYYY out of hunting, fishing, camping, anything like that. It really started bothering me this year because that was part of how we lived growing up. Obviously we didn't DEPEND on what we took for food or anything (although we did eat it), it's just the culture I was surrounded by. So, I got back into fishing a few months back and have been learning so much and have fallen back in love with that. I always fished more than hunted growing up, anyway. Well, that left me really hungry for the other stuff so I took my bow down this afternoon to Corner Archery in Glendale to have it "Supertuned." I want to hunt again and am on here seeking info, I guess. I really want to hunt for deer in December but am really having a hard time with the maps in the regulations book from G&F. I'm not too particular at this point on whether I hunt for Coues or Muleys....just hunt, you know? Any help would be appreciated, guys!!!!
bowhuntinmaniac Report post Posted September 22, 2006 You might want to go to Wide World Of Maps. You can buy topo maps there, plus you can pick up a map program that you install on yer computer. I prefer the latter because you can sit all day at the computer and get to know the country. Once you know the area you want to hunt, got to azgfd.com which is the game and fish website. They have info listed for every unit and broken down by species. It is very helpful and lists the game manager for that unit, so you can contact him/her for more info. Remember, only unit 10 is open for archery deer in December/January in the north country.
Net Minder Report post Posted September 22, 2006 Good to know on the unit 10 deal. I was trying to understand all the notes regarding open/closed areas and was getting lost.
mattys281 Report post Posted September 22, 2006 Unit 32 is #2 in the state for total number of deer harvested (by rifle hunters). If you want to see lots of deer it's a good place to go based on the numbers, although according to azgfd access through private lands can be a problem. I haven't hunted there yet, but am researching it now. I hunted 31 a few years ago & glassed up 24 whitetails in 4 days. It's also a great unit. I'll be in one of those two areas this winter.
