muledeerarea33? Report post Posted June 12, 2013 If you have an unused closet and welding skills, you can build a real nice set up that's insurance approved. Not fire safe totally but dang near theft proof as good as a cabinet.

muledeerarea33? Report post Posted June 12, 2013 When I'm home in the daylight I'll post some pictures of our guesthouse closet. The wife and I are living in it til I can finish building our main house and yes, she's pissed she has to unlock the homemade steel door of our only closet to get to her clothes haha. I used channel steel for a door frame, square tubing and expansion metal for the door. Double 5/8 drywall on the walls for extra fire protection, and just hunt everything on metal shelves and hooks. The closet is 9x5, big enough to be a closet and gun cabinet. The only thing I wish I had done was tie expansion metal between the drywall layers, incase someone tried to cut into a wall.

IA Born Report post Posted June 12, 2013 Check out Bruce's Lock Shop and Safes Unlimited (same store). When we lived in Tucson, we got our current Cannon safe from him and his prices were great. He used to have a great selection, too. No reason to think its changed. He's on Broadway, east of Tucson Blvd.
huntjunkie Report post Posted June 12, 2013 Bought mine from Costco. They have them on sale now and then. I bought a Winchester. Love it. 31 cubic ft. $800. Few years ago there were several posts about members who were burglarized and lost all there hunting gear. Put me in a panic! Bought one that can hold all my guns, optics, my bow, etc.... IMO it's cheaper to buy a big safe to put your expensive/important stuff in than lose it costing THOUSANDS of $$$$ to replace it.

My Rights As An American Report post Posted June 12, 2013 A few years ago Costco had a 51-gun safe with good fire ratings on sale for less than $800. I think it was labeled a Winchester made by some other company. REALLY mad at myself for not buying it!!!!!! Would jump on that in a heartbeat if they brought it back!!!! REALLY mad at myself for not buying it!!!!!! Would jump on that in a heartbeat if they brought it back!!!! Because they are not a "common" item they don't order them on a regular basis. You can call your local store and ask them to look at other stores. They can look who has them or who has placed an order and how many. I did the same thing! Saw one and said, I'll buy it next time. It was gone next time! This was the Costco in Gilbert. I spent a few hrs on the phone tracking one down. Turns out they had 6 coming in the next week. I was out of town. My wife went and bought it. All 6 sold in 1 day. If I see one I'll PM ya.

That would be outstanding! Not that I have 51 guns, but I like to keep things that are really important to me in my safe, including ammo. If I ever have a fire in my house, I want the firefighters to know it is all locked away in a fire safe and they can fight the fire instead of be in fear of exploding ammo! I understand that they will not fight a fire if they know that ammo is not stored in a fire safe area. I could be wrong, though.
