bobbyo Report post Posted September 21, 2006 This should make it easy for you. Archery deer closes for all southern units today. 12a is open until the 28th. Bob
newbee Report post Posted September 22, 2006 sorry- I am eligable to hunt ft huachuca it closes on the 28th so there lies my dilema- coues or muley
elkhunter Report post Posted September 22, 2006 There's oh so many coues bucks out in the open down at Ft. huachua and they're super vulnerable right now, BUT those mule deer are bigger targets...overall I'll choose whichever is cheaper
mulie hunter Report post Posted September 22, 2006 12a that is a awesome hunt, I didn't make the hunt this year, had to work!!!!! But my 2 buddies just got back from the kaibab last night, Took two nice bucks from the same waterhole, that is a key to the the Kaibab hunt the water. newbee Report post Posted September 25, 2006 well couldnt find my hunters saftey card , so I went to the bab- saw two 3x's and was completely unprepared for them ( getting dressed) headed out and saw a few turkeys on a ridge- stalked to 20 yrds, got a perfrct broadside shot [not instant fatal] and saw the bird trying to get off the ground.the arrow didnt get a good stick on his wing and he was able to free it.and then I did the worst thing I could haveI jumped up and ran to him and sent the whole(at least 25 birds) airborne. imagine my face when I realized what Ive done and my bird took off.. I spent the rest of my time searching for him all In all I hope he passed shortly after that- my guess is that he went to perch or got to the bottom of the valley bellow. verry thick and verry steep. after watching that shot replay in my head on the way home to phoenix. I came up with this- I should have waited for a closer shot [or stalked closer] ,and let him go rest. 1st turkey and was over come with dumb a## syndrome not being able to recover game is a cruddy feeling. and ruining your own hunt is worse til next year tom newbee.. Tines Report post Posted September 25, 2006 I'd be all over the base. Too many good bucks with very little hunting pressure (experienced hunting pressure, anyway). There will always be the Kaibab. There won't always be the Ft.!
