123456 Report post Posted June 8, 2013 I have shot them in factory 270 ammo and have had great results. I have killed 2 bulls with trophy bonded bear claw and both have been awesome expansion. I shot the second bull at 65 yards with my 300WSM with a 180 gr trophy bonded bear claw. I shot for his shoulder so he would drop in his tracks, and I ended up finding the bullet in the opposite shoulder's hide. The bullet went thru both shoulders and lodged in the hide. When I went home I weighed the bullet, and it had lost exactly 12gr. I was very impressed.
sherman Report post Posted June 8, 2013 Thanks might be using in a .270 as well. Have you made long shots with them lets say 300 yards or more
hunter72 Report post Posted June 8, 2013 I shot a deer with a 308 with the grand slam bullet it worked well and the meat loss was minimal.
Desert muley Report post Posted June 8, 2013 I have had good performance from the Speer and Sierra bullets in my .270 and 7MM (sub MOA groups at 100 yds.) I use H4350 for both for .270 I load 130 gr. BTSP with 55 gr. and 150 gr. BTSP with 50 gr. for the 7mm I load 140 br. BTSP with 58 gr. and 160 gr. BTSP with 55 gr. The only animal I have shot with these was a small mule deer at about 100 yds. but the bullet entered the rib cage and broke the opposite shoulder and dropped him in his tracks. firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted June 8, 2013 If you are talking using factory loads from the 270, the federal premium 140 accubonds, in my opinion is the best factory load out there for the 270. If you are reloading, the tbbc, especially with the addition of the polymer tip, is an awesome bullet.
123456 Report post Posted June 8, 2013 First Bull I shot with the 270 TBBC was around 130 yards. Hard to tell about expansion because I shot it right in the pocket, and it blew all the way thru. It made soup out of the lungs though. I have never taken an animal over 150 yards.
PRDATR Report post Posted June 9, 2013 Both my kids used my Remington 788 in 22-250 to kill a couple of Doe's on the Kaibab for their first hunts using factory rounds with Trophy Bonded Bear Claws from Federal which were 55gr. My son shot his at 35 yards and we did not recover the bullet. My daughters shot was closer to 175 and was a spine shot and the recovered bullet was 52gr's. This was in 2001 and I still have 14 rounds left in that box.
coueshound Report post Posted July 13, 2013 Years ago I was shooting Federal trophy bonded bear claws in a 270. I shot a bear that was quartering towards me at about a 100 yards or less. I hit him in the front shoulder and knocked him down, he was up quick and to make lone story short I never retrieved him. A few months later that year my wife used the same 270 and shells from that same box of Fed trophy bonded bear claws on an elk hunt. Her first shot on a bull was 35 yrds. right in the left shoulder. Finally ended up killing this bull a mile from her first shot. The bullet to the shoulder had completely blown up. This is contrary to everything I have heard or read but needless to say I have not used this bullet since. Nosler Partition or Barnes copper death ever since no problems
sherman Report post Posted July 13, 2013 Thanks I ended finding some hornandy 139 gr for my 7 mm and just got some sst130 gr from a member on this site. For some reason my gut was saying to stay away from them
rkv09 Report post Posted July 14, 2013 I used the 130 gr sst on my deer last year, shot hit at 425 with the 270 ran ten yards, rear up like a horse and fell over. When I butcher him the bullets destroyed his both his lungs and I found three pieces logged against the skin on the opposite side. So no pass through but went off like grenade inside. I will keep using em for deer but for elk the 140 gr accubonds are my choice.
