AZ_SAWBUCK Report post Posted June 6, 2013 Looking at upgrading my range finger for this upcoming season. What range finders do you think give you the most for your money? Somthing for archery and rifle hunting that ranges out to 1,000 yards. $300-$500. I was looking at the Vortex Ranger 1000. Thanks Jason
AZHUNTER05 Report post Posted June 6, 2013 Get the vortex! I bought the Nikon and regret it every time I use it. The vortex is small, light weight, and has a great feel.
AverageJoe Report post Posted June 6, 2013 Try to find a leica 1600. They are pricier but i sold one on here a year or so ago for 550. They are quite a bit better than any other rangefinder out there. I had the vortex and it was just ok. It is slow to read and i got inconsistant readings up close. Farthest i ever ranged anything was 600. I ranged a large rock at 1982 with my current leica 1600-b.
gotcoues Report post Posted June 6, 2013 Double check the "deer sized target" on that vortex. If I remember right, I didn't go with that one because it was too low. Very pleased with my Leica, but it hurt a tad on the price. Also, check out strelok. Very impressive shooting app and it's free. It will work well with whatever you decided to buy. Redman Report post Posted June 6, 2013 I would go with the Leica.... I don't have one, I have the Leopold TBR 1000i... its okay, better than the Bushnell ARC I had. Buy nice.... or purchase twice.
cosninocanines Report post Posted June 6, 2013 Leica 1600 B I love mine quick and once you master holding it steady it's fantastic. I've ranged cattle out to 1700 yards and muley's to

Leica would be my first choice...but my budget didn't allow it. I too went with the Leupold TBR 100i. I really like it. It is a ton better than the older models. It has the illuminated reticle and gives a read out quick. It will range trees/bushes at 900+ yrds. I studied reviews before buying, and the Vortex did not rate well overall. Kaffer62 Report post Posted June 6, 2013 I have a leica 1600b and it is the best rangefinder i have had. Period. The others dont even come close. The furthest range with mine has been 1935. But then for archery it doesnt angle compensate at short distances.

But then for archery it doesnt angle compensate at short distances. That sucks. Just looked that up and you are correct. No angle comp under 100 yds on the new 1600-b. thats why i bought it but guess i should have waited and got the new leica 1000-r which does angle comp from 10-600 yds. Frikkin leica how hard is it to make one rangefinder that does it all.

AverageJoe Report post Posted June 7, 2013 I didnt like my vortex because the ranges were inconsistant, very slow to report the reading, the shape made it hard to tell if it was forward or backward when reaching for it blindly as you are watching a deer. At times i would bring it up and be looking through the wrong end. I fixed that problem but it still bugged me. Also the furthest i could get it to read was. 600 yds and that was a big rock not even an animal.
