Programmer for 2011 Ram 2500 Cummins

Recommended Posts

I guess this is the right place to post this...under "Other Gear"

I'm looking for recommendations or pointers on programmers for my new 2011 Ram 2500 Cummins. Primarily hoping to increase MPG and efficiency, but also would like to be able to boost power when needed. I towed our trailer through Salt River Canyon this weekend and was very pleased with how it performed, but would really like to get better than 11.5mpg if possible. :D

Thanks!

Big Orange join the Cumminsforum.com there are plenty of advantages in getting rid of the EGR and DPF.

And HS performance makes a great delete kit.

Just got a 2nd hand Bully dog from a friend. its the triple dog power pup. It is a turner that you can use on Ford, Chevy, or Dodge. (only one at a time) it has 3 settings, no power or stock, econ/tow, performance, extreme. econ/tow and stock are very close in power and fuel econ.(11mpg). Performance I get 14mpg and a lot of power, I can smoke the tires. extreme i get 12.5 mpg a ALOT of power. its fun to drive now. I got it for 150.00 if I would have had to pay 600.00 aprox list price I don't know if it would be worth it.

Don't get it for the fuel economy, it will never pay for itself. get it for the fun.

Good input...I really appreciate it. especially the comment about not getting it for the fuel economy, but rather for the fun. :D

I did check out the cumminsforum.com too. Such a learning curve on diesels, but fun too. I'll be cruising that forum a lot too over the next couple of months..

I found out (which I probably should have thought about already) that any code changes will potentially void my warranty, so I'll at least be holding off until the 100k mile point to make my decision.

Hey Big Orange, you should jump on the Az section of the CumminsForum, we have meets quite regularly and switch it up from meeting on the east side to the North Side of town. There's quite a cult following of us on there from Az. We had a meet last Friday and at the end had 13 trucks or so show up! We have new guys joining the forum all the time and coming to meets. I just found out there are 7 total 70's Fords running around Oro Valley with 12v Cummins under the hood 4 are twin turbo'd and one of them has a Commonrail.

Forget canned tuners. Find a reputable tuner that is using EFI Live. I highly recommend Rob @ Adrenaline Diesel. Simply Google him and you'll know why. He also goes by his forum handle "Idaho Rob"

Is EFI- live out for the 2010-2013 6.7 Cummins Speedy? Last time I checked it was only available from 06-09.

When your ready big orange you can buy an HS programmer I.e. the mini maxx and with the MCC software,Ryan Milliken ( one of the best custom tune writers on the cumminsforum) will be able to get you set up in the right direction, with tunes to fit your needs( stock, Eco tune, hot, towing, etc).

Regan,

On Rob's website he offers EFI live tuning for 2007.5-2012 so I assumed so. Ill be the first to admit I'm not as "in tune" with the Cummins as the D'max. I am not at all familiar with HS. (other than they send me promotion emails about once a month.) I am assuming its a custom tuning software just like EFI live?

To the OP.

Either way a custom tuning from a reputable tuner is a much better alternative to canned tuners. ie Banks, Edge, Bully dog, etc.

Get some good gauges, (I'm a big fan of hard gauges but allot of guys like the Edge CTS.for monitoring.)

+1000 on the gauges and custom tuning Boost, Pyro, Trans temp and Fuel Pressure. Autometer or Isspro not GlowShift!
