Dec hunt in 32 or 36B

Recommended Posts

First post and was hoping for some general advice.

I think I've got enough points for a Dec hunt in either of these units and wanted to see if people had any advice. I've hunted 32 in the past (12 years ago) and did ok. I've never been in 36B though.

I want to do a backpack hunt with the wife. The wife is in great shape and can handle pretty much everything rough country can throw at her.

I'm looking for a quality hunt and the best chance at a 100" buck. My last one was 95" and I would like to do better this time.

Thanks

Well if you're going to backpack, I wouldn't do it in 36B. Just my 2 cents. I've alsways wanted to, just don't want to put myself in that kind of situation. I miss out on a lot of big boys I would imagine though...

I think the unit 32 hunt would be more fun as you wont have to be concern yourself with the drug mules. There has been alot of 100+ inch bucks shot in 32 so i dont think that will be a problem if the weather is good.

With the wife I would stay away from a backpacking hunt down south...while the deer numbers are good the added risk is not...

Plenty of great and beautiful units to get away and see deer with effort!

My buddy drew the 36b tag a few years back and had a team of excellent glassers with him and ended up with tag soup. I killed a 95 in in 2008 on the nov hunt in 36b. They just are not as thick as they once were in 36b. I have never hunted 32. I did however see a 123in stuffed at a clients yesterday out of 21 on the general season hunt. I will say that each year I miss the draw on 13b, I hunt over the counter in any 36 unit. The leftover tags have treated me well. Food for thought
