Bighorns in the Catalinas

ANOTHER foolish program by our moronic Arizona Game and Fish department. By their own admission, the supporting groups are counting on " an alignment of the Stars" to be the key factors in the likelyhood of succesfull reintroduction of Bighorn Sheep into the Catalinas in the Pusch Ridge area...

1) Improved habitat as a result of wildfires in 2002/2003

2)Plans by the Forest service to have "controlled" burns

3)AVAILABILITY of sheep from a HEALTHY bighorn herd near Yuma and northest of Mesa

4) Trail Restrictions in the Bighorn Sheep "management" area...

As the Bighorns died out in the Catalinas, over population(human), poor habitat and predation were sited as factors in their demise back in the 1990's...

Are there less people in north-west Tucson today???

Does anyone believe the FS will be able to have "controlled" burns so close to Town today???

Does shutting down a major hiking area for months at a time, and placing restrictions when it is open an enforceable/good idea???

Why take animals from a healthy bighorn herd, and try to place them in an area where you might be able to see them from the base of the mountains with your spotting scope, when there are many other areas that could use a boost to their bighorn populations???

Another case of "Do something/anything to make it seem like we(AZGF, FS, and the enviro groups) are doing what is good for Az game animals"

When in truth, it will be a money hole that causes more avoidable bighorn deaths, closing of popular hiking trails by a major population center and a big suc from limited funds that could and should be spent elsewhere...

IMHO

There's so many lions in the Catalina's and there are a lot of them on the south face too. Their always seen in Sabino Canyon, or their drinking out of peoples pools haha, it's going to be a mutton steak fry!

The bighorns in the Catalina's died out because too much of their range was down where Oro Valley now is. The sheep spent a good amount of time down low, and when the houses went in the bighorns disappeared. This is why our tag and license fees keep going up... To pay or stupid things like this.
