Guest Guest_bullwidgeon Report post Posted May 23, 2004 Never been to 29 or 30A but I have been to 27/28. There is not alot of coues like in the Southern units. It took me a few years before I found a few decent deer holding spots. The country is big and thick, expect to spend alot of time behind the glass to locate deer. These units can be frustrating if you are used to the non-stop deer parade that typically goes on in the Southern Arizona units. The good part is you can literally hunt sections of the unit for days at a time and never see a soul. And some of the bucks do survive the lions and the wolves and get big, really big. Bret M. Arizona Griz Report post Posted May 23, 2004 I hunted 30A a few years ago. There is not a lot of accessuble country to hunt. I hunted on the New Mexico border and there were a lot of hunters. Arizona Griz.

CouesCrazy Report post Posted May 26, 2004 Before the introduction of our wonderful wolves 27 was in my opinion one of the best units for monster bucks in the state. As Ive watch other units I hunt get better and better over the last 10 years 27 has only gotten worse. Thank the enviromentalist and the wolves for that. There are still some great bucks in 27 you just have to work harder. 29 and 27 both have the genes to grow some huge non-typical bucks, the only problem with 29 is access but if you put in your homework you can get to some great areas and take a great buck. 28 is one of the worst units in the state for Coues but its one of my favorites. There are not very many whitetail and they are only in small pockets throughout the unit. This is not the hunt for you if you want to see a lot of deer, and plan on alot of scouting if you want a good buck. it is a great unit if you have alot of time to hunt and want to see minimal hunters
TREESTANDMAN Report post Posted May 26, 2004 27 has some huge coues and muley bucks! There are a lot of hunters that hunt "certain areas". Treestand hunting is very very good there in some secluded thick areas that hold a lot of good bucks. I would not recommend still hunting or rifle hunting those areas though. wildcats Report post Posted May 27, 2004 I'd have to say 29 is best to me just because of the amount of deer I've seen.I've hunted around the Turkey Creek area and man Isaw big ones, small ones and a couple of bear.My last time there was 2 years ago and took a shot at 2 hundred class bucks plus saw about 10 other little bucks and this was in the October hunt.Good luck to all on you hunt and draw!
