Non-Permit tag rules

Recommended Posts

This is the first year I will be hunting archery in AZ and could use some clarification as to how this affects one's rifle hunt as AZgfd seems to not be very specific about this on their website. My questions are:

1. If I purchase a non-permit tag to hunt archery deer, do I negate the opportunity to draw rifle?

2. If I can still draw rifle then how do the bag limits work? Is it just whichever way you harvest the deer first?

3. Is a non-permit tag good for any of the listed units or only one specific unit that you choose?

4. And can you continue to purchase non-permit tags if unsuccessful the first time?

1. You can still apply for a rifle tag if you buy a non permit archery deer tag.

2. You are only allowed 1 deer per yr. If you are successful in Aug during an archery hunt and you still have a rifle tag you are not able to use that rifle tag.

3. Any unit that is open to the non permit tag.

4. Your non permit tag is good for the entire yr. until filled. 2014 you will need a new tag.

Hope this helps and good luck.

I'm new to this forum as well. I spoke with a game warden at one of the recent sporting shows. I was told if you harvest a deer during the non permit season and you are fortunate to get drawn for rifle that you can donate that permit still towards a junior hunter. Im not sure of the specifics of how you would do this, but I know there are some great charities like hunt of a lifetime or outdoor experience for all. It's something ill definitely consider if I run into this predicament. Happy hunting.

welcome to the site!

you won't find a better hunting site or a better group of hunters!

your correct, you can donate your tag if you are lucky enough to harvest an otc deer.

there are some threads on here as well as info in the azgfd regulations book on how to donate

good luck and be sure to share your stories and pics here with us!
