Kenetrek boots advice

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about buying a pair of these boots for hunting. Most of my hunting is desert but I do get up in the high country as well. Which model do you recomend for out terrain?

Thanks,

Speedy.

I just bought mountain guides, coming from the danners I was skeptical. I love old school danners, bought new and they suck. SO had to do something. Went with the mountain guides. Boots are amazing, I went with the 400 insulated and could not be more happier. Would not wear another boot. Then wife, who hikes about 30 miles a week, decided to switch over too. She has been wearing a 3/4 type minor hiking shoe, she had always hated the high top boot.. Wears them out in about 4 months or so. So she ordered the womens mountain extreme and she doenst want to ever take them off. They worth every penny they cost. Keeps my ankles in the right spot, no sliding around. Good choice if you get. Order them from Santana Outdoors.

Thanks for the review on the Mountain Guides. I'm really considering the Safari Guides. Only because they are light and uninsulated. I shredded a pair of Under Armor boots on one Couse hunt in 24B. bought a pair of Danners last year and haven't been happy with those either.

I use a pair of the mountain extreme 400's for all my early archery and even the later winter hunts. They do quite well in both hunts here in the payson area. Have worn them for the last 3.5 years and have never had an issue with them. They remain waterproof and do a great job.

I have been thinking about the desert boots. I have a pair of Danners that suit me fine for Alaska and late hunts here, but it seems like my biggest problem is my feet getting too hot on about 3/4 of the hunts I go on. Anyone try these?

I have the kenetrek mountain extremes and kenetrek mountain safaris. Both are really comfortable boots, but I wear their K-talon soles out very quickly. All of my buddies wear kenetreks too and we all have worn the toes of the soles out very quickly. All of us think pretty much the same thing, they are super comfortable, but we have not been impressed with the durability of the soles. You can get them resoled for about $85 as long as you don't wear through the boot leather under the sole. Unfortunately, it is pretty easy to wear through the soles too much and then the resole costs like $180 or something, which at that point you may as well buy new boots. The other complaint I have about the mountain extreme non-insulated is that they don't keep my feet very warm in cold weather and my feet get hot in warm weather, which can be really frustrating. With all of these complaints, I am still really happy with them! If I go with Kenetrek on my next pair of boots, I will probably buy the mountain guide non-insulated. They are basically the mountain extremes (which I really like) but they come with a tough Vibram sole which should solve my main complaint of them wearing out too quickly. Good luck, and I think ultimately you will love kenetrek boots. The other boot you can check out is the kenetrek desert guide boot. They are really tough (vibram sole) for the rocky desert terrain, the only thing is that I don't think they are waterproof. If you want waterproof boots with the vibram, certainly check out the mountain guide I previously mentioned.

I have the Mt extremes, non-insulated and I freaking love them! I had them in 24b last year and I think both of my hunting buddies will be purchasing them for next year. They have very good ankle support and are borderline sticky in regards to traction. Worth every penny to me.
